D'oh! yell sorry @Geektastic Typo on my part

I can't actually contact your provider for you. So you would still need to log the fault with them yourself.

If you PM your address after you book a fault in, I'm happy to look into everything for you in more detail. ^Mike

Geektastic:

Cool. Thanks. Do I need to take any action?

Generally when i log these faults on my VF Line my calls go like this.

*introduction and authentication conversation*

I'm having slow speeds and disconnections when it rains. I've completed a modem swap and re-termination of cables to ensure my side is clear (I have a somewhat complex wiring setup so I'm always upfront in that I've checked up to the ETP).

can you check things on your end and run a 24 hour LQD.

regardless of the rep your speaking to, they understand these instructions.

I don't rely on agents to call back, i generally follow up in 24 hours, ask them to review the LQD. Confirm findings with what i locally log and ask them to raise it with the LQD attached and make it clear that it only occurs with wet weather.

I've never had an issue with doing it this way. I am direct but polite with it all, They are just doing their job afterall :)

I will admit, the local field tech is amazing, he cares about his work, Goes out of the way for customers so that probably goes a long way too..

Confirmed by Chorus

"Thank you for contacting Chorus, I hope you’re well.

I’ve had a look into this and currently there are no plans to roll out fibre to your area. However, this could change and I would encourage you to keep an eye out on government notices to see if this changes."

So this change from fibre in 8 years to no fibre at all has got to do with the government too?

No idea. That's what Chorus said to me, verbatim.

I feel for the person who responded, This was likely the best response they could give.

It's like if someone came to me and asked about cell towers. I can look on the computer, maybe has a little wispier but i can't exactly sway the world - there is still no tower supplying signal to my house afterall!

I do think it's a bit of a copout to pass all the buck on the government though.

I'd love to see for the more "rural communities" much like yourself, to have an option where they can go to chorus and do a NGA On application at a wider scale.

Alot of the cost that goes into these is all things like traffic management, if your going to pay the way for things like that; may aswell group up and do it all at once.

Chorus do a fair job at new builds with the whole subdivision maybe something like this can be looked at for this too (it's something i'd personally be interested in too.)

The rollout date has never been 2026.

You wouldn't have had fibre planned and have had it taken away, I think you have just missread something somewhere.

If you get better speeds on your phone why not try a wireless rbi type broadband services. Would likely be faster.

Perhaps, especially at weekends, although there are not that many people in the area served by the cabinet - for example, of the houses nearest us, one is empty until Christmas because the owners are in the UK in their other house, one is empty because the owner spends most of his time at his house in Wellington, one is empty because it is a holiday home, three contain two people each one of whom in each house works in Wellington.

Hi David here from InternetNZ.

Have you searched on the https://broadbandmap.nz/ to see what data is returned?  We aggregate data from a range of fixed and fixed wireless providers. Keen to know what is showing as planned timeframes for you if it is returned for your address.

Kind regards

David

quickymart: Probably not going to get fibre then, sadly.

I suspect a lot of "rural" NZ (and you can see we hardly constitute rural)

Anyone more than 1km from an urban area or fiber fed cabinet is what I consider to be rural.

You might want to give your local ISP a call - Wiz Wireless. They are rolling out network upgrades as part of the RBI2 build now.

I think that's a pretty slim definition of rural - I would say 10km or more from an urban area. However, even by your definition I am not sure we are a full km from the fibre fed cabinet.

We did have Wiz come once before. Some fellow stood on the roof in the wind, trying to balance an aerial and an iPad unconvincingly before deciding we did not have LOS to their base.

VF have decided to send me a new version of the modem - I do not know what sort or how it's different - to see if that solves the problem.

Speed has been up and down all week, with the worst performance being a Ping of 6,268, download of 0.64 and upload of 0.48!

With a latency that high, sounds like bandwidth utilization is reaching the point of congestion.

makes no difference what you or any one else thinks is rural, the Government has decided you are not getting UFB at this time. Being close to a fibre fed cabinet also means little, just means you can get VDSL, and has no bearing on the availability of UFB.

ieven if you are that close it seems there is an issues somewhere what is causing your low speed. have you checked your house wiring? do you have a master filter.
