Hi, thing to remember is that fibre installers are paid jack sh1t per install, so will do the minimum to do things, and that will include ignoring your complex needs to get in and out toot sweet.

So to help yourself you could plan ahead and install some pathways in advance to get what you need.

I guess that does not really answer your question, however without understanding you particular layout and situation I cannot comment further.

If it's any help:

1) We live in a huge old, cold Dunedin house over two storeys, and it was was incredibly difficult to get wifi coverage of worth outside a couple of rooms.

2) The ONT went on the back wall of the house and the Chorus guys were pretty helpful (gasp!).

3) The Vodafone supplied HG659 was useless for my needs in terms of wifi range, so I ended up running it to an Apple Airport Extreme/ TC system which grew over time, and although stable never really provided good coverage.

4) I eventually switched out the HG659, AExt, 2xAExp and 2xTC Apple Airport "pseudo mesh" for an Orbi RBK500 base plus satellite, with the good folk of geekzone helping me to get the tag settings right so I could just plug the Orbi into the ONT. That bit does require you to use the HG659 for initial setup, but once all is done it can be removed from the system. It turned out to be remarkably easy.

5) Net gain of 4 AC sockets, loss of 1 ugly router, and very fast connections even on the other side of the house upstairs (usually 500/300Mbps) or out down the end of the garden (1500m2 and no drops). Wired is a faster (1000/450) on the AppleTV. The upstairs satellite has three ethernet ports on and anything wired to this appears as a wired connection - despite it getting all data wirelessly. Sonos system very happy with this.

6) Orbi came from JB in the Meridian and they price matched a very good price for me too.

7) Tech support to children and the CEO now negligible.

Happy to help if questions - it sounds like your needs are very similar to ours!

Ben

Edit: PS sold Aiport kit on trademe which covered cost of Orbi :-)

And in response to the OP, Vodafone currently offering $300 credit for re-signing for a year on their Ultimate Home Plan, plus a $10 month credit for "loyalty" and a further $10/month for having a vodafone mobile. Offered to set up for 24 months but no benefit to doing so, so not done... worked out $155/month including Sky Sport.
