Average 67Mbp/s download and you are comparing this is my 1000Mbps connection my upload speed alone is almost 9 times faster!

Uncapped "Fibre" plan which is really Fibre to the Node and then VSDL. Speeds I'll need to get my brother to check as they've just switched plans and had a speed upgrade. At Christmas as was getting around 40+ Mb/s down

Well that is only worth $30 then. Whats the upload on it? So few places have the option of 500 up that we have here, that is worth every dollar of what I pay. Laughable seeing places with their "fiber" connections that are really coax with fake gigabit down and 12 meg up trying to compare it.

But for Mr & Mrs Average this is more than good enough, plus faster and cheaper than a lot of peoples ADSL/VSDL connections here in NZ.

Not if you consider the fault and reliability of copper compared to fibre.

Let's be honest. Chorus are coming up on the time when comcom will allow them to start withdrawing copper. That will no doubt start triggering changes like dominos.

I find it kind of amusing that this made mainstream "newspaper" news. It'll help RSPs but dropping a few dollars a month if it was passed on isn't going to do jack for the standard consumer? I'm not complaining, I just think it's odd that it's in the Herald

$40 per month was for 30/10 - did anyone ever take that up?

I will also point out that ADSL/VDSL (UK's Open Reach FTTN) uses very cheap unreliable huawei gear vs the Nokia gear used here
