PLVSTC: So, bit of an update.
After getting power metre and postal address registered, I've contacted my ISP to book an install with Chorus.
However, Chorus has notified them that we'll need council plans for the address, however there is no council registered address for our flat as the property was not subdivided.

So it's looking like it's a no go.

@Wheelbarrow01 is this a normal requirement for this type of install?

With enable in Christchurch we never needed council plans that I am aware of - but they may have checked behind the scenes (it was a subdivision). Good luck.

Depending on the flats layout could you get the ONT moved to somewhere more central? ONT moves are much cheaper than new installs. This might entail a small amount of building work if e.g. a cupboard needs to be constructed that you and the other tenant can both access. But if the landlord was prepared to pay for an extra fibre install...

Hi PLVSTC, providing council plans should not be required in this scenario. Your RSP just needs to lodge an address validation request, and as proof of the existence of your address they should provide the following:

 

1. Screenshot from NZ Post website showing that the address is a registered postal address;

 

2. Screenshot from the Electricity Authority "find my meter" website showing a matching address to the above;

 

3. A photo of the letterboxes is helpful, but not strictly necessary.

 

Example below:

 

 

 

If you want to flick me your address in a DM I can have a look at it, but not sure if I can assist with address creation - Chorus staff logins ironically can't create address validation requests - these requests must come from an RSP login.

 

[EDIT: Just to confirm - I personally know someone who followed the above process with his RSP a month or so ago and the address was created successfully, the Infill Build fee was paid, and the fibre has since been installed]

The address doesn't show up on NZ Post website unfortunately, and I'm unsure about how to go about getting this set up. If I could get the address registered with NZ post and then once the power metre is up and running, I don't think the landlord would mind fronting the $1200 or so to get the connection set up.

That's basically what I was hoping I would be able to do. Imagine my half of the house as being a granny flat or something from the other "main" half of the house, and getting a second ONT install for the "granny flat" side.

Mostly due to me not being able to get access to the ONT if it needs to be powered off, reset etc. And I'm unsure if Vodafone (my current ISP) supports secondary services like that.

 

 

 

 

You could install a box on the outside of the building next to the ETP (like you would use for a power meter) and put the ONT in there? The existing opticat cable is already in place for the main residence so you would just need power and an ethernet cable run to your residence.

 

We do a similar thing with power in our house. We have an upstairs residence, downstairs residence (official minor dwelling with the council) and a seperate studio too. WHile there is only a single power meter, this is on a box on the outside of the house with seperate breakers going to each residence. This way if there is a problem anyone can go and reset "their" breaker.
