My ears rang as name being used
Ah yes as you may remember last year, Wild Fire ripped through Lake Ohau taking out 48 houses including ours

VDSL will be more reliable so will probably head back down this road.
There is also talk of a 25m cellphone tower going up on section beside us, not overly keen on this as 'Rural scenic' council status with a great big tower sticking up not ideal

Sorry to hear you were one of the places erased by that horrific fire,

So, are Chorus going to just reinstate all the copper gear for VDSL !?!... sounds like a backward step

What's the backhaul on the Cell tower... microwave hop?, or are they going to run a fibre out to it...

Which leads to the next obvious question....

Chorus put up a new Cabinet as old was burned but not melted so cabling pretty well OK I think
Cables in the ground deep enough to not have been affected (not tested by me anyway)

There's fibre running to the the A/VDSL Cabinet in the village
I don't know what's going on with these rumoured 4g towers (actually 3 of them) one beside our place where's there's no power and no land based Interweb
So will need a radio feed and solar panels/battery arrangement or power run out of village or our place as we're closest to the poles
Another on a 12m pole close to the VDSL Cabinet close to the 2.4Ghz lodge tower
And one stuck on a lamp post pointing down a short cul-de-sac

At a firemeeting it was mentioned about the lack of reliable cellphone coverage, now we are going to have it in spades (well possibly)

A couple of years ago a guy came up to look at a similar scheme putting up a tower in front of our place (10m)
But I said the only real place is by the Cabinet in village where there is already a tower to supply Lodge with interweb (2.4Ghz) and its at highest spot with a clear view to main tower 26km away (even when there were still trees)
As that site has power and the cabinet but the village didn't want it in their backyard but was fine to be in my front yard as not affecting them
But that all fizzled out as power is the biggy

Interesting times ahead

Apologies for hijacking this thread

4g is a viable option I've got a few sites setup at work
You do want to stay away from RBI and try to get direct Vodafone or Spark account
As RBI internet costs way more for less and you use the same tower as townies use
I got an antenna at each site and get good speeds at utterly remote sites, extra $200 setup cost but made up for in probably 3 months less cost

Also at work a couple of sites are on WISP, as mentioned earlier reliable but slow and expensive with limited BW
But at the time of setup 4g was but a sparkle in Vodafone's eyes

That's what I use at all sites as they work well

The stick on the window one works too, better than I thought it would, but the antenna above is best

So it's approx 7 klm to the cell tower. Is that close enough ? can the signal be measured from my property to prove the antenna will work ?

ermat: I'm located in Tahawai, katikati.

Like I say - instead of trying to connect to RBI Mobile which does often have peak time congestion issues and lower data caps consider a local WISP who have their own equipment.

I'm pretty sure @myfullflavour may cover around here so could be worth having a chat.

Unfortunately he tells me it's not an option for me.

Also try Lightwire or EOL.

Unfortunately, north of Tauranga, our WISP coverage goes as far as Whakamarama.
