I can believe this based on our install.

The contractors (from off shore, contracted in to do the work) asked that we thread strapping  (the blue plastic stuff) in the conduit (that I had to pay for otherwise they would run it over the top of the driveway!!!) so they can pull the optical cable through. My brother who is a sparky said that was a very old method, why don't they blow it though. Talked to the contractors and they had never heard of blowing cable, let alone have the equipment to do it.

I then had to watch over them and stop them from joining to my conduit with incorrect undersize conduit for the above ground work ("it doesn't matter if dirt and rain gets in the conduit pipe" - apparently), and generally stop them from doing a terrible job.

Apparently there is a budget per case (not much) and the interest is to do it as quickly and cheaply as possible otherwise they don't make any money out of it.

We ended up with a tidy install as I supervised, but the initial push was to tape it down the fence line, then literally pass it across the top of the concrete driveway, lawn and path to the house so it would have been driven across, walked across and mown over!!

I don't imagine that would have lasted long.... but I have seen installs like that at other properties.

Hello again

The Chorus / subcontractor UCG team came again and said the conduit installed by my builder's electrician is not standard Chorus and not 20mm although it says 20mm on it, that this is a cheap one that sells for a fourth of the Chorus conduit (which UCG/Chorus always buy from Corrys (sems they buy everything from Corrys). They left a piece of their conduit - see photo - which is wider and the right one they say.

Is it likely that Marley would be making and labelling "Chorus" on a green continuous conduit if it wasn't approved by Chorus?
Is the fibre tube really stuck or do they just not want to use something they think is non standard ?

The Marley is Chorus approved.
The chorus "sticks" are 20mm Inside Diameter and the continuous duct you have is 20mm Outside Diameter from memory. Its a hold over from using what was essentially pressure/water pipe, which was always fun when the water and chorus had been run together to a house.
I think there are adapters but we would just heat the sticks with a gas torch to create an appropriate bell end or if we had to tape.

<edit> The continuous is cheaper but was intended for directional drilling or thrusting, the sticks are reccomended for open trench.

I thought I'd replid yesterday... Yes, The black one is stuck inside the green conduit and can't be pulled through, even though it looks loose.

Chorus/UCH technician provided me with th following photos of what the electrician should install as a conduit.

My builder says the CHorus cable above with the draw string inside is the older system. Is that correct?

It sems I am stuck as CHorus/UCG team told me that even doing the second best thing of putting a gator won't work as the Chorus drop-off point will not accommodate 3 gators (on for this OHUG and twp others for the new connections ot the new houses).

Any advice is welcomeon what I should do. Many thanks.

I can think of a few solutions but I suspect they would want you to pay the difference.

You could ask about putting a Pedestal in, although im not 100% on if that would work with aerial fiber, or ask about a larger pit for the Gators.

Channel make the larger pits Chorus use and also make some smaller ones that might work. The techs might not have come accross them though, I only used the smaller pit once in seven years.
