It's a rhetorical question, Google it, they have only just been invented.

and so what if there is no demand? it doesn't cost anything to have a 20GB plan does it? all vodafone have to do is make a new 20GB plan price and put the info on their website and let people signup and i'm sure that's what they pay their website admin for.

It's not that easy. Provisioning processes have to be adjusted, staff have to be trainined, it has to be allowed for in their billing platform. They can't just add it to their website and that's it.

Also, what would be the point? At their 3Gb plan ($69.95/month) a 20Gb plan would be $466/month. Who would pay that for a 20Gb cap? ($23/Mb?!?)

if 20GB on vodafone would cost $466 a month then why is vodafone's price so high when woosh has 20GB for $59.95. both woosh and vodafone have wireless networks which cost money to maintain but vodafone has at least one million subscribers and their revenue is far greater than woosh, yet vodafone have smaller data caps.

Comparing Vodafone to Woosh is idiotic. Vodafone (as you know being your employer) is a worldwide mobile company who "dabbles" in mobile data, has invested heavily in cell sites nationwide.
Woosh on the other hand is a Internet provider with ~120 Sites nationwide limited to Akl/Wlg/Chc/Inv.

johnr was replying to richgamer's idea that Vodafone had 1 million subscribers. johnr never compared Vodafone to Woosh.

Woosh is a good service if you need mobile broadband in the city ... It is cheaper than any other wireless provider but the down side is their network is really small.

I don't mean to be rude but I think that maybe you are all missing the big picture? I believe that Woosh has large investors in Asia and they are testing out the technology in New Zealand to see if it will work before they go ahead and cover the whole of Asia in the same tech, so I don't think investors are too worried about losing the initial cash as they have a bigger plan in the long run. I could be wrong but this is what I think could be happening.

We are talking over a hundred million dollars here. Nobody is 'not worried' about loosing that much cash.

If they were in fact 'experimenting' they would know long ago that it is destined to loose money and pull out, not leave it up and running to loose more money.

No, there are no large investors in Asia. The large investors are NZ based.

IPMobile Japan had an interest in the deployment of IPWireless (Now NextWave) equipment but it appears that not long after a visit, they filed for bankruptcy.

The large investors are from Kuwait Finance House. Currently they are looking for companies to invest with KFH and then give that out to Woosh. Its not gonna happen though.
