valtam: What justifies the internals of a vdsl modem being worth $200 more than an adsl2 modem? Good ole supply and demand?

The reality that there are very few VDSL2 modems around. $330 isn't "expensive" for a modem, infact it's cheaper than many ADSL2+ models that I'd recommend.

Installation of a VDSL2+ master splitter is mandatory.

Also all the modems on offer in particular the Thompson are quite well equip'd units and better described as RGW's, which include N wireless, VOIP ATA's media sharing (ie SAMBA/CIF/FTP of USB drive) and in some cases builtin DECT basestation or DECT dongle support to provide both wired and DECT Wireless access to the ATA.

Hang on, so Tcom is beta testing VDSL atm?

I looked at the broadband map the other day and I'm in a VDSL zone (round Ponsonby area), so technically I can the full vdsl speeds?

That would be sweet if I could get mega fast bb :D

Yes, should start seeing ISP's offer VDSL plans sometime in the new year.

You wouldn't recommend the Draytek Vigor 120 ADSL modem? http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?ItemID=376438

That is a lot cheaper than $330 and the best modem I have ever seen.
