Worldnet have release what looks like VDSL plans... WTF?

I thought Telecom were still in soft launch with no hard pricing as of yet.
Has anyone enquired about this plans?

http://www.worldnet.co.nz/personal/vdsl2/

I know Worldnet are not well respected, Just curious about this offering.

120GB for $139.00 with up to 55MB down and 30MB up...interesting.

Interesting, is that naked or is there a PSTN tax ontop?

Sorry,

Must have Worldnet landline for $45.00 auckland/wellington/chch or $51 outside those areas, so no, its not offered as a naked service.

Its still a good price compared to a normal 25 gig plan and then another 100 gigs added really, and that upstream. Oh that would be useful!

Having a 1GB plan is laughable. Even if it was going at 10mbps - that'll be gone in less than 15 minutes of continuous use at that speed. If at 55mbps: just under 150 seconds.

vdsl2 modem? $330? Ouch.

I see little need for vdsl with such low caps.

In fact, a slower connection may be better so the cap is not eaten so quickly.

Guess this is probably more suited to business use.

I wonder, if the vdsl2 modem is ipv6 compliant? Sure sucks if you have to buy another modem in a few months time.

The upload is where it would help me. I would put up with 3 meg each way if available, instead of this 900k up nonsense that adsl is paralyzed with.

Very tempting.  I see they also allow you to disconnect without penalty within the first 3 months.

If I wasn't 95% there in moving my services back to Telecom I'd probably give Worldnet a go.  The $50 off for the first 3 months is nice too, helps cover some of the modem cost.

You obviously dont remember the days when ADSL first came out and paying $900 for a Nokia M1122 was a reasonable price :)

That's a $44 premium over ADSL on a 24-month term. I wonder whether it's safe to assume that the premium will be similar with other ISPs when they launch.

Money buys a quality product. Most ADSL2+ modems I'd recommend such as Drayteks are ~ $500 - more if you want their VoIP models.

VDSL2 modems also don't have the economies of scale of ADSL products at this stage.

VDSL without land line/pots will only be available at full launch, which explains why ISP's like ISP's that are usually in early like Xnet and Maxnet aren't offering products based on the soft launch yet imo.

Quite a few ISP's will probably wait for cabinetisation to get closer to finished rather than deal with heaps of calls and enquiries about VDSL from people who are in areas that can't get it yet.

Seems likely the Thomson TG780vn is the vdsl modem/router Telecom will be supplying (to start with anyway).

Billion and Zytel already have consumer-ish VDSL modems.. I would expect something from Dynalink/Netcomm.

No VDSL2 section in the PTC Register on the Telepermit site yet though Surprised

You obviously dont remember the days when ADSL first came out and paying $900 for a Nokia M1122 was not a option because Telecom would only rent them to you for $30/Month :-) <tongue in cheek>

I resisted from saying that :P

... Although if memory serves me correctly, there was an earlier (M11) model too.

Once VDSL plans are released by ISPs, they will only be available with a POTS line, no naked VDSL initially.

Conversely, I think that a "register your interest"-type thing is a good idea. Let the ISPs/Chorus know where the demand is so that cabinets can be installed in the most appropriate locations.
