cyril7: Anyone got any info on modems that support v6, as I understand it the current firmware on 99% of them only support v4, and I presume (with new firmware) if they have been handed a v6 address subnet then the NAT router is bypassed?

There is a list at http://www.sixxs.net/wiki/Routers which gives some information on the different routers that support IPv6. The majority aren't adsl capable which is one reason using a Draytek Vigor 120 in PPPoA pass-through comes in handy.

Some routers may have an IPv6 version of NAT (but the original standard didn't) and the majority of firewalls don't filter IPv6 traffic.

I reckon enterprise applications are going to cost a bit to upgrade too.

Just one of my clients , has embedded the ipv4 protocol within all of its internal applications which communicate to external interfaces.

This will cost quite a bit to upgrade -some parts need to be outsourced to the supplier which no doubt will pass on costs.

Unless, the company retains ipv4 addresses internally and runs a dual system. That is a medium term solution which will mitigate costs for a while. I'm not sure if it can be a long term solution as the network administrators will tire of maintaining two protocols.

As for Ent App's, v4's going to be hanging around inside the corporate network for a loooooong time. There's little point if the application only operates within the corporate lan, v6 upgrades will come if it needs to interact with the rest of the world

Except with Windows Vista and Windows 7 if you have broken v6 connectivity your computer will have to wait till it times out going v6 before it tried v4. Really slows down web browsing

just go to www.google.com instead of ipv6.google.com

I dont think they have ipv6 records in the www subdomain.

I dont think they have ipv6 records in the www subdomain.

For now. They're publishing AAAA records on world ipv6 day.

As above the whole point of this is to enable v6 on the normal domains that people use to access it and for people like google and akamai to see how much breaks and why it break
