You can't bypass a cabinet. The reason you're connected to a cabinet is because of your distance from the exchange. DSL is only optimal under 2km, so with cabinetisation the vast majority of people are within 1km of a cabinet, and a significant number within 500m.

Connecting people to active gear in street cabinets was done to improve connection quality where the exchange was too far away for 10Mbps speeds. You don't want to be going backwards to 2Mbps or so, which used to be normal for those who were lucky! The unlucky ones got 128k or even nothing.
Can I recommend you focus on what is different about normal pings and in-game pings? I suspect that your modem is struggling to handle the volume of traffic, or some other application (like bittorrent software) is running at the same time, possibly on a different computer. See if it makes any difference when you play the game with other computers disconnected?
Yea have begun to think more about the difference between pings, I dont believe me or any other devices connecting are torrenting while gaming. For the sake of testing ill disable the wireless later and hop on for some BC2 and see if theres a difference. And also test out my old modem at some stage when i find it
Havent gone down the interleaving route yet, am trying to convince parents to look more into the new orcon plans.
edit; are there any and any modem/router settings causing high difference of pings? QOS? anything?
