Borg wifi was a company that was run from tauraunga. They used to have an online shop where they sold WISP networking gear but ran their own network. Was quite large too - i think they had coverage in Auckland, Tauraunga and also a huge one in the tokoroa area.

I was about to suggest the op should call borg but their website says they have shut down the tokoroa network. I would be happy to drive over there and power it all back up and run it if there is sufficent demmand and i could buy the equipment off them if its still in place.

As far as I know, Andrew took all the servers back to Auckland, which is his main area of business

The $10k figure is a little on the light side.
I would be thinking closer to $20k if the relay sites were mains powered already.
I was recently part of a project near Geraldine in the south island where the guy setting it up spent well in excess of $40k

Dunno, that was what was told at the time. Moot point in any case, I didn't take them up on it.

Incedentally Andrew has sold his wifi network recently to swift technology.

RBI isnt going to be all that good as Vodafone arent being that flexible with the data caps and costs. Where is the closest wifi network vecause if its not that far perhaps consider bouncing the signal off a few understanding neighbours!

Happy to say that Telecom's little 3G router arrived today. All hooked up and surprisingly good speed. No ethernet port on the thing so I had to add a PCI wireless card to the mix. No problems at all given the usual horror stories you often hear about getting wireless to work with Linux. I'm a happy camper right now except for the fact that I have discovered my T61 Thinkpad wireless adapter is kaput.

I would like to test it but everyone uses Ookla which requires flash and I have an aversion to that POS, possibly as a result of being on dialup for so long
