Downhillnz:
FYI virtually every ISAM in the Chorus network is VDSL2 capable. In the real world this means virtually every cabinet has VDSL2 including those nearby you.
Wrong. Its generally the last card that has VDSL capable cards. Not all of them.

So the OP is complaining because their broadband is less then 1Mbit down? I have customers that are under the 500k and that is their good day.
The fact you know that the cabinet has had a cute little fight with a car, you should show some consideration to Chorus.
They might not want to fork out 100k++ for a new cabinet. Its up to the designers and Chorus higher ups to decide if they even want to consider
replacing it when the UFB/UFF roll out is so close.
The costs and time would be months at best. Alcatel gear generally has a month or
so delay. A new cabinet needs to come from where they come from.
That's over a month when we order them. Its not going to be an
overnight job. Fiber feeders need to be extended and terminated. Copper
distro cables will need to extended and terminated onto krone blocks.
ISAM need to be terminated onto krone. Jumpers need to be run, that's a
two day job.
First World Problems.
Rant over.
I don't get why this isn't an insurance issue.
As for Alcatel, really, I mean REALLY?! You telling me that Chorus don't hold a range of spares for their network? Is it now really that fragile?
sbiddle: If you're on Slingmshot gear and refusing to move the problem is only your own doing. This means you've always been serviced from an exchange rather than the closest cabinet. Read my large post on midpoint injection if you want to know a lot more.

Steve I see a number of issues in play here.
I've been following the discussion on the TSO review that's going on and this thread raises a number of issues.
Living in this area, knowing the people, I understand about the $10 issue. $10 is just nothing to you where as $2 a week can be an issue for people here.
You and I might just run that up on a credit card and then trust that we'll have a better income year next year and pay it off, but being without proper net is an issue.
I'm also reading lots and lots of "I'm entittled to" talk with respect to the Chorus network.
I think this is a problem.
I think that from Government down, we're going to need to start radically changing our attitudes.
I might equally ask why the 2Degrees reps haven't stepped in here and committed to providing a 4G network to these folk at fixed line prices and why members here aren't speaking with MPs about getting 2Degrees frequency space to use at this site to meet the needs of this under served community?!
Or I we could be asking the same question of Telecom and Vodafone, they also have well established networks in that area.
My point is that we are now in a world where that are lots of network providers.
Reading this thread is like someone ranting that McDonalds won't set up a takeaway in their local suburb that already has KFC, Subway, etc.
I do agree that the TSO provider should be obligated to service delivery, but at present the TSO obligations are being met and most GZer's don't give a toss about TSO.

coffeebaron: No way would 4G be cheaper.
nickb800: I don't work in telecommunications or IT, but this seems insane to me. ~3600 whisper cabinets around NZ, and not one complete set of spares in the country. Aren't the same ISAMs used in exchanges too?

Nick, I agree. This whole thread is very strange and I get the impression there's an under current running and this isn't as much about this persons service as the bunch of issues that don't seem to have good sensible answers.
I'm assuming that the RSC in question has Slingshot gear in it as well as... oh.
D
sbiddle:(not to mention the mere economics of putting gear in a cabinet simply doesn't stack up)
brickviking: Um, you guys are throwing around all sorts of abbreviations that I'm not aware of yet, like RSC, ZRC, TSC and many others. I'm on Slingshot gear because it does indeed give me a ten dollar break. Another ten dollars isn't exactly easy for me to come up with on a monthly basis given the amount I'm paying. Internet's practically all I do aside from looking after the good wife. And no, let's just keep the topic to what I originally posted, my reconnection to BUR/AD. If I need to pay it, I need to pay it, but I'd really rather not.
Put simply, I was paying ten dollar less, and getting my DSL from BUR/S (and presumably my voice from BUR exchange), what difference does another 400m make? Ten dollars for 400 metres? That's worse than a taxi!
