Batteries I would have no idea how big would be needed? Guessing about 30Amp hours for a day operation no sun? Guessing around $150, could use a car battery, but would not be optimal.

yeah, there are two dates, one listed for a chorus upgrade period, and one for RBI.

after conversations with a few people, that seemed to miss align, was not 100% sure on which it actually fitted on.

Good to have an month, been out trying to narrow down a General idea for it.

As for progress, None as of yet, as the upgrade is not completed, it would be rather minor gain. Connection also currently bypasses WAK/C and goes direct to the exchange due to the congestion on the cabinet currently.. need to get to moving that back at some point too.

Not to mention things have been pretty busy between myself, and my parents place so fitting time to sit down and discuss this on a clear head is pushing dodos up the hill...

Just got in from farthers day stuff, so ill give ya an exact address in a sec. - Boarderline vdsl however thus considering the 200M shortened.

Irony is... i just built a computer up for a family member up there today.. spend all damnd day downloading!

luckily, it was a case of leave it going, and go up the road to another family members house for lunch/dinner so spent most of it simply with a remote session open up to keep an eye on things.... In hindsight, Should have taken the machine back home and pull everything down on a real connection!

Or come to my house with 70Mb/s VDSL, Or got o Rokki's house with 200Mb/s UFB.

idk.. thats like twice as far.... not sure where Rokki lives..

i can get by with the 50mbit Vdsl.. would still have finished it all in like an hour rather than the.. 10? hours.....

On the upside, it was a beautiful day in the Waitaks, sun was very warm :)

So, Given im moving back to my parents...

Time to actually start on pushing this.. im already going insane at the delightful congestion of sharing such a bad line!

Few things i have come to realise for this project, Firstly being.. if vdsl is possible it will be one of thoses very borderline cases.

Secondly being, its not happening for a fair few months, regardless of the fact that work has already started. - heres hoping it somehow speeds up eh!

So for the time being, looks like ill be setting up a nice pfsense box here, squid cache, run a ngnix reverse cache for things like steam, origins etc.. And hopefully there wont be a port waiting list to have my second connection linked up here!

Suspect seeing this average of 250ms to my first hop will become too common and another port May not be an option however...

Seems this project is going to be on starting up now!

this is first sync so given things are likely to change, and following this thread of shortening the loop by 200M should be good improvement.

24.5dB, at the house is a little high, through not the best wiring currently (spiliter installed ofcourse, but not what ild say is best case)

Going to do this two part, see if we cant get vdsl on the existing wiring, then look at reducing things, stick a DV130 at the end of the PoE extension and terminate PPPoE on my pfsense box once loop is down.

Sound like a reasonable route to go?

Manual prequal is underway, didnt expect a prequal to come back with correct results but its great to know chorus already had it noted for requiring a manual prequal rather than serving up results for if it was still coming from the exchange :)

As previously advised it looks pretty unlikely you can get VDSL even at the bottom of your driveway.

Have you considering getting VDSL installed at one of the addresses up the road and using P2P Wireless. Would be far less work.

P2P wireless link would be outside of question unless we look at a stupidly high pole (situated in a dip in them middle of bushland) and that 300M is a bit of a hill.

Unfortunately, a second connection and bonding is also not possible according due to copper pair availability. - i actually had a second connection all ordered, after a manual prequal to confirm we could do it, that fell over due to this reasoning along with port availability (null issue considering moved from exchange to cabinet now ild say though.)

500M up the road, i do have the perfect location for a P2P link but LOS through trees is pushing it!

Mind if i ask, where do you pull the 300~400M figure? 100M is a reasonably sizeable difference.
