chevrolux: This just gets better and better. Seriously though, this is what they are calling acceptable now. It's absolutely mental. We will end up looking like Vietnam with cables all over the place!!

Why do they do that?  How do the techs find the right cable?

That would be the pragmatic approach. AFAIK building elements only have to have 50 year life if it would be a major job replacing them.

If a fence got knocked down it would take longer to fix the fence than redo the cabling. My sister has Vodafone HFC to a back section clipped to a boundary fence. The rails attached to the side of the post so they just went along the bottom rail. You'd only notice it if you knew it was there. Some time after her install they stopped that so she wouldn't have had the option of cable.

I'd imagine the HFC drop would be inside a conduit though, not just outdoor rated cable clipped to the rail, which is more vulnerable to damage from kids, weedeaters etc

The librarian said that the damage was done over the weekend. She thought that it was vandalism. She's filed a report at the community branch police station, but I doubt there's much they can do really.

A couple of years ago, some little buggers smashed all the PVC downpipes on this block of shops.

Be interesting to see if they beef up this UFB installation to make it more vandal-resistant.

Someone should setup a dodgy UFB installation Facebook page so photos can be uploaded...

Show and shame.

DarthKermit: Our local branch library had a UFB connection installed on their side wall (facing into an alley way) a few weeks ago. I noticed this evening that this has happened to their installation:

I don't know if this is the result of vandalism or perhaps someone has bumped a vehicle into the wall.

Anyway, I wonder if this installation should have been made more bullet proof to start with?

Should the junction box have been installed higher up on the wall?

Should metal conduit have been used?

Originally, there was a grey flexi conduit from the junction box to the vertical conduit. This has disappeared.

As of today it looks like this

The wall had been kicked in when the local &%$s tried to kick the UFB terminations and cableing off the wall - they got the wall and pulled the internal cable out - but just about everything else was intact - we just moved it up & away from the hole

Was that you sitting in the Chorus van outside the library, about 3:30 pm?

Good to see how quickly that vandalism was repaired by you guys. I guess you have to factor in how stupid some members of the public are to do things like that in the first instance!

Today I was going to get my fiber installed, however I found out that the people who installed the cable did not do their job properly and didn't bother to connect it to the street exchange.
Here is the installation of the cable and how it was installed, when I complained about the install I have been told that I have given "consent". Yes I did, but I gave consent for a install that was supposed to be done properly and without issues which they failed to provide. Now I have been told that getting the cable from my house to the exchange will take around 2 weeks rather than getting it installed today.

Here are some of the amazing pictures of the install, I would like to add that they left rubbish behind with their screws in the garden and damaged some plants that could have been avoided when installing it.

Thanks for your input to my thread. Were you informed in advance that they would be clipping the cable to your fence?

No, I was asking them to bury the cable as much as they can. That on the ground is bark that could have been dug up and the cable could have been buried below it. If not, it should have been placed a bit lower than it is. I don't even recall signing a consent form for the guys that installed it. The tech today told me that a fiber cable should not be like that. The bad part is that the fence is not even mine, but the neighbors.

I'd lay a complaint then. Especially as you say the fence isn't your property and they apparently clipped it to that fence without asking permission to do so.

I have escalated the issue, someone is coming to fix it either today or tomorrow. I already escalated the issue, and I'm hoping they will find a team to get me sorted faster than 2 weeks.
