Sadly, it probably is.

It actually looks like they've bent the conduit properly, so that's a plus.

I wander what would happen if the conduit was to fill up with water...

Yes and no. Yes being a free install. that means a basic install and going down fence is fine. if you want anything flasher pay to have it put undergeound. No being that bend shoulsnt be exposed and should be in a 90degree sweep piece of conduit

That won't be fixed. The muppets in charge of quality at Chorus deem this an acceptable level of install. It is absolutely ludicrous.

You talk to guys who worked for the post office (and the rock gang) in particular and they will tell story's about just putting the spade in the ground and sliding the cable down the back when they were in a rush for a new install. It led to shallow cables being dug up often, varying depths and no real standard for burying cables.
this is happening all over again with this brand new billion dollar network because a group of people want to save some money.

I've had a chat with pjamieson and also told him about an identical install done in another street near me.

Looks like both were done by the same guy to me. If anything is done to improve these installs, I'll post about it in the future.

The very next house in my street (to this install job) also has UFB installed. However in this case, it was installed in conduit under the front lawn and up to one of the vents on the house, with nothing exposed to the elements. You tell me why two jobs could be done so differently?

This is why I dug up my lawn and garden and drilled through my path and fitted the conduit myself!
If you want it done right, do it yourself!
My conduit is buried 500mm + deep, no chance of accidentally spading that conduit.

I actually dug it close to the mains, gas and phone line rout, so it's pretty obvious there's a lot of dangerous stuff under the garden.

As an ex alarms / access control install tech, I have come across some really shoddy installs, and to be honest, the image above isn't the worst I have seen...
It's far from the best as well.

Tracked down the right people to send this stuff to and they have passed it onto the appropriate people to look at.

Thanks. It'll be interesting to hear if anything will be done. smile

Think I'll go take a snap of that other similar install job for the GZ folks to peruse.

This just gets better and better. Seriously though, this is what they are calling acceptable now. It's absolutely mental. We will end up looking like Vietnam with cables all over the place!!
