OP here.

Now I'm really f**cked off!

Chorus came today and did his best but in the end looks like we are too far away from the exchange for VDSL, even though the Chorus map online says we were within that zone. So now I still don't have a connection (6 days after moving in).

We leave for an overseas trip this weekend. I need my ADSL connection today or tomorrow morning or I can't get the security alarm installed in time. This delay after delay after delay has really put us in a pickle.

It pisses me off the maps aren't accurate enough to tell us which service to order. If we had known to order ADSL a MONTH AGO I'd have had broadband all week. Now it looks like I won't have it at all before we leave. I'm guessing Chorus will come back saying it's schedules for sometime mid-next week at best, which is well after we leave.

On top of that, Orcon could care less about retaining their customers. They seems to almost welcome us going to another ISP! Since when did telecom companies not fight to keep their customers (and win some off the competition)?! I thought that was their core business model.

At a loss for what to do now as there doesn't seem to be anything barring a medical emergency that can get things moving along faster to meet our deadlines.

go on your trip, book it in again for when your back

Not being able to get a connection isnt anyones fault, you are in the 20mbps area, your ISP and chorus both think you can get it, but there are other factors that can influence it, like quality of the line going into your place, no one knows what that is like till they actually go a do an install. its just one of those unfortunate things

The chours map is a guide only not a definite.

sucks for you but there is not much you can do about it, did they at least install a master filter/splitter?

Benek:
Jase2985: is it an alarm over IP or a standard alarm? if its the latter it doesnt matter, just get the tech to tell you the sequence of numbers to force the alarm to do a comms test after the install, your phone will work before the vdsl install so that shouldnt matter

Alarm is over IP.

Don't have a landline. Our phone with be VOIP over Orcon genious. So we can't get the alarm setup completed until broadband is activated.

So why not get the tethering setup, connect the alarm to that and just swap the cable to the VDSL after its installed.

Yeah the master splitter is worth having and will improve your ADSL too.

Time to find a new industry!
