joker97: Question: What is the recommended distance between FTB - ONT?
Standard Chorus free install is up to 5m

Does the speed degrade if this cable is longer? What is the special cable called/type?

no that is the length that Chorus supplies to the installer (Actualy in 305m box) and pays an installer to connect, per install, for the free standard install

joker97: Another question.

The fibre is going to be attached to the fence.
Between the fence and the house there is a circumferential path of about 1m wide worth of tarseal.

The guy said he was going to hack off the tarseal to create a gap big enough to jam the fibre in to bring it from the fence to the house.

Is that normal?

btw its not the fibre that he has planned to be attached to the fence and then slotted over to the house but a microduct known in the trade as ruggedised ribbonet ( a soft 5mm OD/3.5mm ID tube sheathed in a harder ploy outer sleeve, between the inner/outer layers are two three strandard locate/strengh wires). This is joined to the microducting that has already been layed in the street and then the fibre is 'blown' down the tube from the service deliverly device (cabinet/terminal etc) to the FTB on the side of your house.

If you want you can dig your own trench to have this microducting laid in the ground instead of on the fence if you want (standard min cover inside boundary is now 200mm except for slot cuts in hard surfaces)

I like a tidy job and personally if it meant I had to dig a trench I would dig a trench.
The thought of mirco ducting on a fence makes me shudder. At some point that fence will come down and maybe you or someone is up for another bill.
It may be 10 years but sure as eggs it would come down at some point.

You could always call the install and let him know your plans first so you can sort out any issues before labouring.

InstallerUFB, does Chorus get a fixed subsidy from CFH towards the cost of each domestic UFB install?

Wouldnt have a clue - commercial info etc but i doubt it. But Chorus has guauranteed to CFH that their "standard" install 15m+5m will be free to domestic customers till the end of 2015
