I noticed that my current ISP has not passed on the price increase to new customers on their site as of yet but has announced that they will be increasing it for current customers.

After inquiring with their customer support they advised me that will be absorbing the cost for new customers but increasing it for current customers. Not really a good way to treat existing customers and I am wondering if it would be worth making a complaint to the Commerce Commission around unfair contract term's.

I'm on Spark fibre, haven't heard a peep :-) Even if I did I wouldn't be bothered. If it was the $2.30 that's been bandied about, it's only $27.60/annum (7.6c/day), and considering everything else I've gotten, or am getting, as part of my broadband deal I'd still consider myself well ahead of the game.

@majik654 Don't trust what customer support advises

This does not sound right to me so name the ISP and let's get the official word from them

I think Seeby once said when he was running orcon that it takes 2 years to break even on a broadband customer in the NZ market.

When you sign up on a 2 year contract, the marketing team as worked out the various costs involved per customer signed up and so they may have given you a free router, free netflix or whatever else promo they are running.

New customers may not receive as much in benefits as a result of the change in strategy.

My ISP is Orcon and I was advised this by email. They did offer to provide me a credit of the price difference for 12 months but that does not help other existing customers.
