cyril7: Hi, dont think ther is any issue with your lan side, its the phone line side, what other phone/fax/sky boxs are on the line elsewhere in the house, have they got filters. The modem itself does not need a filter only phone devices, but leave the filter there if you must it should not effect the speed, but unfiltered phone/voice devices will.

Is there a monitored alarm (monitored or not if its across the line it can stuff DSL).

2 Cord less phones, and all have filters on. And the broadband is plugged in to the ADSL part of the filter will the phone in the other plug part.

Hi, well with 6dB attenation and 1.6Mb/s download speed and 12dB noise margin there clearly is an issue with your line, and from my experience 99% are the house wiring. I would do a simple isolation test, just remove all the phones from the wall sockets and leave the modem only connected then check the sync rate.

If you want to do a more exhaustive test, then locate the first socket from the demarc and remove all of the house wiring so only the line to the cabinet is what you have, connect your modem there and see what you get.

If the sync speed issue cannot be resolved then you're perfectly within your rights to feel a little short changed.

I even used a modem I got from Telecom the free one you get, plugged it in and used on 1 PC over LAN, the result was the same.

Hi whats on the lan side is not the issue, you clearly have a line fault, however as to if its Telecoms side of the demarc or yours is the question. From my experience, and I do this stuff for a living, it 99% likely to be on your side, so if you place a fault ticket with Telecom and they find your end the problem they will bill you, unless you pay a wiring maintenance fee.

As I said before the modems are measuring 6dB line loss at the 1MHz reference, this means the line is around 500m long, which means it should go pretty much as fast as ADSL2+ will go. The most common reason for the speed being limited is something is shunting the line or line stubs in the street or house are causing ill effects that are limiting performance.

Have you done a line isolation test as I suggested yesterday, this means removing every phone device except the modem from across the line, and if possible try doing the test at the first socket with all the other house wiring removed, this may involve a small amount of wiring skill that you should not do if you dont feel confident.

Failing that, log a fault with Telecom, with the speed you are gettting it is a definite fault that they will have to fix, but as i say if its found to be your house wiring, you will be billed. Alternatively get a independent contractor to look at your house wiring, if he gives it a clean bill of health (using a similar test method as above) and the problem persists then there will be no charge as it should be on telecoms side of the demarc.

I don't think its a line problem, the last internet in this house had over 7mb+ before I got the line.
