Give it some time - just cause the work at the cabinet or exchange has been done - doesnt mean ull be working eith vdsl yet - the lines has to be provisioned from snaps end which can be done between midday till 7pm tonight -

Hi all.

Been seeing this for the last couple of days;

Note the incredibly high FEC errors in the last 15 minutes. Nothing has changed my end. I've been on DLM-1 and nothing there has changed.

I noticed a tech out at our exchange a couple of days ago too.

Should this worry me? :D

Hmm, as long as your CRCs stay low you're fine. I see that you have bitswap on as well which is interesting.

I have ordered a loan / test fritz from snap so that I can eliminate my router as the cause of my issues. Chorus couldn't find anything wrong on their end so they suggested it could be my router. Personally I doubt it, but you never know and we have to test it to get Chorus to do anything else in any case!

When I had issues with my line my Fritz would occasionally do this. It would eventually start maxing out CRC errors and drop the connection. Will be interesting to see how long it keeps increasing for before it falls over.

I jumped onto DLM-1 the other day and my CRC errors were sitting around 0.2-0.3 so I dropped the SNR margin down one notch and they are sitting at a steady 0.08 on the CRC now. Hopefully my connection is where it will stay now.

FYI;

Finally got around to flashing Freetz on to my Fritz 7390. Really happy with the result. I've now been able to disable the built in freetz DHCP server and use dnsmasq instead.

When you flash freetz, you don't lose any of your previous settings either - so the process was pretty painless. The fritz interface is 100% retained. The freetz interface runs on a completely different port.

I haven't tried the bridge-utils package - but I assume you can get a full bridge should you go down the freetz path.

Reading this thread with envy.. Waiting on my 7390 to turn up so I can switch over to VSDL.

I take it I should just leave everything alone for the first few weeks and see how DLM settles in before I do any tweaking?

The one thing I wish I did when I got VDSL was set my Intended signal-to-noise ratio to Max. stability straight away. I was on DLM1 with in 7 days but because of the CRCPM going up before I even had a chance to react I have been stuck on DLM2 for 2 months now.

So when you get your fritzbox and have DSL going set the SNR to Max stability. You will end up on DLM1 with in a week if your CRCPM is low or 0 like it is for me. Than once you are out of your 10 day phase you can decrease the SNR every couple of days until you find the sweet spot.

I have not had one DLM change since the ones that happened during the 10 day phase. So even with a CRCPM of 0 or 0.01 I am still on DLM2. I reset my router every 2 weeks hoping for something but nothing changes.

I know I can get that 10 day training phase restarted but I am getting some cat5e cable run from the demarc to my router in a couple of weeks so will wait till that is all working.

I like that idea. Raw speed isn't that important to me. I'm mainly getting VDSL for the upload speed as I already get 17Mbps on ADSL2. Any improvement for download is just a bonus. I haven't had much time for Battlefield lately but I'm keen to get onto DLM1 ASAP just in case I get some gaming time in.

So just do it through the GUI?

Yeah, if you're increasing it just use the GUI. If you want to decrease it for increased throughput that's when you have to start hacking ;-)

I was getting 17-18Mbps sync on ADSL before. Now on VDSL with max stability I am on 37Mbps and 0 CRCPM. If i move my SNR back to 12 I get 43Mbps and crcpm of 0.08. But as soon as I went to DLM1 my CRCPM shot up to 0.95-1.

IMO you should leave everything at defaults until after your initial 10 day period, THEN you can start tweaking. Believe it or not DLM is there to give you the most stable, highest syncing line possible and it's pretty good at what it does. Tweaking your settings before DLM can get a proper 'feel' for your line may result in worse performance in the long term.

I think for the training phase having your router set to Max Stability over Max Performance is the better option. Because really Stability should be number 1. After the 10 day phase you will be able to fine tune the performance side of things. In my case I went with Default settings and almost 2 months on I have not had a single DLM change(since the 10 day period ended) even though my CRCPM is on 0. Its been 0 or 0.01 that entire time.

As I mentioned once I get one length of cable run from the demarc to my router I will be requesting the 10 day phase be restarted and I will have it on max stability so that once it hits DLM1 I know it will happily sit on it. Than once I finish the 10 day phase I will move the SNR down one notch per week to see where the sweet spot is.

0-0.30 is a good range. It looks like you are on DLM2 so that rate would increase if/when you go to DLM1. By how much is impossible to tell though until it happens. If the rate goes to high it will bump you back to DLM2.
