It's not that Chorus should be trusted or not, they have put their shareholders first as do so many companies. Shareholders do not come first, CUSTOMERS come first without customers shareholders have nothing but a dream. Many happy customers paying a fair price for a fair product and a well managed company will make profit that can then be returned to shareholders.

@pjamieson thanks for the PM. I'm in discussion with others in the community who will continue this through to an acceptable end.

@coffeebaron I've still not found anyone inside or very close to the township with Wireless RBI, with Vodafone coverage patchy (as in non existant in areas) in the township something needs to improve there before people would even look at that.

Coverage based off a handset has no relation to that of RBI which uses an external antenna. There's around 20dB difference in signal gain.

After meeting a few people from the Commerce Commission Telco team at an event a few weeks ago I'm of the belief that they severely lack the technical knowledge that should be required of people in that space who are ultimately responsible for regulated broadband in NZ.

Can you remind us all as to why broadband is regulated at all in NZ? Is it simply govt policy?

Can you remind us all as to why broadband is regulated at all in NZ? Is it simply govt policy?

To ensure that any money given to Chorus (or some other outfit) has the necessary strings attached to ensure that the tax payer receives value for money. IMHO at this point it would be better value for money to put up more towers, deploying LTE and reducing prices for RBI than running new copper lines out to far flung locations.

One of my speedtests on my 100GB RBI plan. Not bad for an "up to 5Mbps" connection :)

Yes, an absolutely fabulous result, I'm sure this forum and the petition were discussion topics and I think Chorus has done the right thing.

The petition, submission to the Commerce Committee, response from Hon Amy Adams and supplementary submission were all well worth while.

Many neigh sayers here will beg to differ...

Congrats though, This is the first case i have ever seen where a petition worked.
Either that or it was just a planned upgrade. Its been a year or two since this started up :).

Was more than the petition I done, the community really wanted to be part of the UFB2 rollout and came up with some great ideas and put together a super plan to show what can be done.
