Nothing has changed for me.. No resyncs and still on DLM1 with CRCPM of 1.

I put the last setting (RFI) back to Max performance on my connection this morning. CRCPM has gone up from around 0.12 to 0.35 though still waiting for it to stabilise.

It resulted in absolutely no change in sync speed though (in fact it reduced slightly) so I'm tempted to just put it back up 1 notch since this is the 3rd time I've tried putting it to max performance and it always increases CRCPM on my line (more than target SNRM did)

I'm alost tempted to try some proper SNR tweaking looking at some of your CRCPMs; Will wait a few weeks and see how you all fair first though ;-) Though maybe not... as I've always said my current throughput is plenty and I prefer lower latency.

(@SamF: My first thought was also: "perhaps they've relaxed the parameters for DLM.")

Had a resync last night, though it doesn't seem to be DLM triggered. When the line came back up the SNRM was 2db, even with the setting set to the middle notch on the line settings tab. The connection is about 6Mbps faster than it was before but predictably has an even worse error rate. SNRM now seems to have increased to 5db though nothing has changed on the line. Not sure what to make of it but I think I'll leave it alone.

Huh! Interesting! Almost seems like you've been put on a 0db SNRM from the cabinet end!

Yeah, it was weird. I've just had a resync 30 minutes ago - doesn't seem to be DLM triggered. I'm still on DLM-1 but now the SRNM looks normal and error rate has dropped to 0.12 CRC/min.

Well!  1 Week on DLM-1 with a CRCPM of 0.8!

@McGee: What are your stats looking like now?

Because I'm a sucker for punishment, I might reduce my SNRM back down to 12 and see what happens...

Hi Everyone,

I had VDSL installed on Friday, and based on everyone else's stats, I would expect better sync than I'm getting. The guy I talked to at Snap told me just to wait and things should get better.

Any advice?

thanks

@gmanp: The usual first question: Do you have a VDSL master filter or are you connected direct to incoming line through a single jackpoint with nothing else (jackpoints or anything else) running off it? And are you on Naked VDSL plan?

If so you probably are best waiting a few days and seeing what DLM does to you. Though your sync rates do look a bit low...

@sidefx Thanks for the quick reply. No one said anything about a master filter so I didn't organise anything. Therefore I probably don't have such a thing. How do I get one installed?

Whether you need one depends on how you house wiring is laid out.

If you have multiple phone jackpoints throughout your house and they're all wired together and you want to keep it this way then you probably do need a master filter. (Or you're not on a naked VDSL plan and still have POTS service)

The ideal case for VDSL seems to be if you're on a Naked plan and have the incoming line wired directly to single jackpoint, with no other jackpoints connected to that and nothing else splitting off it, then just plug the VDSL modem directly into that. Then no master filter is required - this is how I have mine currently.

If you feel like reading a bit and feel comfortable with some basic wiring and DIYing, you can probably either install a master filter or ensure your master socket is the only one wired up yourself. It really depends how complicated your wiring looks. Folk on the forums here can probably help if you want to open your master jackpoint and ETP and post some photos.

If you just want to take the hassle out of it and are in Auckland area I would contact Coffeebaron on these forums - I think his rate for geekzone members is $150. If elsewhere in the country snap can organise chorus to do this though some reports are that they charge $400 these days...

You're on DLM-6. Normally as DLM does it's thing and the profile changes you would see a significant improvement in speed; that's what the Snap guy was referring too. However I think there is a problem with your line and/or wiring. Your upload speed is too low - it looks like there is noise limiting the speed. Note that your upstream signal to noise ratio margin is only 12db. Compared with the stats in the first post on this thread you have the same line attenuation but those stats show 18db of upstream SNRM and full speed upload. I don't think any VDSL connection should see less than the 10Mbps limit on upload. You're also getting CRC errors which is fairly unusual on DLM-6 I think.

Can you post screenshots of the spectrum and statistics tabs as well? Also your line attenuation is fairly high - do you know how far you are from the cabinet/exchange?

My advice is to start by putting a filter in. Chorus won't even look at the line if you don't have a filter installed.

Thanks for the help everyone.

From reading a few pages (and one of the replies says above) I've learned that since I'm on naked VDSL, I shouldn't need a filter. Speed have gone up a tad overnight 29Mbps down, 7 up), but still way too slow.

I'm not too unhappy, the speeds are still waaay better than ADSL, but frustrating to know there's untapped potential there.

Spectrum looks like this.

You shouldn't need a filter provided you don't have more than one jackpoint wired up and no old alarms or anything like that wired to the incoming line.

The frustrating thing is that even if you meet these criteria and therefore theoretically don't need a filter chorus will (apparently) still insist you have one before looking at the line outside your premises for potential issues.

I'm going to have someone come and look at the line and install a filter. I'm pretty sure that the cabinet is really close to my house (I'll take a photo tonight so someone can tell me if I'm look at the correct green box!) so the performance should be fantastic, but clearly isn't.

You'll be wasting your money installing a filter on a naked connection. Filters only filter out digital signals from analogue signals for use with POTS phones. You have no POTS phones.

It looks to me like there's something wrong with your line. I'd start by disconnecting all phone jacks in the house other than the DSL jack from the incoming line. That will help resolve any internal issues. Then you can decide how to proceed from there.
