Chrisclarke:

Same happened to me last week, and numerous others in NZ according to Reddit and Facebook threads. I contacted customer service who provided the following response:

'Thank you for contacting Starlink support! We apologize for the delay in response. We have performed a deep investigation of your IP location. We are in the process of moving users to our next generation Starlink PoP. This was a major update to our network and will vastly improve reliability. We have verified that your geolocation is correct on our end, however, providers will need to update their IP lists. We have provided all providers with the needed IP addresses but it may take from 2 to 3 weeks for these providers to fully update their databases. This will be a short term pain point for long term improvements. We appreciate your patience and continued support!'

would his cause sky on demand to stop working?

It is possible that sky on demand would be affected.  I have noticed that. Disney+, nzlotto, trademe and TVNZ on demand website have been affected. Netflix is not, Amazon Prime video is ok, and freeview is working.
It has to do with which iplookup database is queried.  If you check some report Auckland and some report California

This happened maybe 6 months ago when Starlink added some new IPs then.

You should log a ticket with any service that restricts access based on IP geolocation data and let them know it is not working for you and that Starlink publishes a RFC 8805 IP geolocation feed at https://geoip.starlinkisp.net/feed.csv

heads up to possible price increase ($US)

*****************
Starlink’s baseline monthly service price will increase by 11%, to $110 from $99 per month, effective May 21. The price of the baseline Starlink hardware will jump by 10%, to $549 from $499, for users who placed a deposit but are on SpaceX’s waiting list for service.

For new orders, the company increased the base hardware price by 20%, to $599 from $499.

Users seeking a refund in light of the price changes can cancel service without a fee, but will only receive a full refund if they received the Starlink hardware in the past 30 days. Otherwise, SpaceX is offering a partial refund of $200 for users who cancel within the first year of service.

There has been a reasonable increase in the hardware cost for NZ - from $799 to now $1040. It is likely they are still making a loss on the hardware (incredible technology in there) but this might put a few more people off.

Oh well too good to be true.  Back on CG-NAT.   Still have one of the new addresses.  Still have issues with various sites.  Son can’t remotely access University as the IP is detected by them as in the states.  Guess the CR didn’t take into account the risks associated with not waiting long enough for geolocation databases to update.

Is it just me, or do other people like the dish teardowns ?

Yesterday we finally got rid of the PSTN line in favour of VoIP over Starlink.  A bit risky because there is no mobile coverage.  (But in the event of a hardware failure we could hook up to the neighbours Starlink.)

The northern part of Australia is not covered at all? Interesting, I thought Starlink was everywhere.

Based on some availability in South America - it may be down to lack of ground stations more than satellite coverage.  Seems areas really close the equator are still not properly satellite covered yet though.

I thought I read somewhere that Starlink are not allowed to uplink to their satellites when they get closer to the equator to avoid interference with Geostationary satellites. That is also why all the dishes point away from the equator.

Yes, they're not supposed to point straight-up to avoid interfering with geostationary satellites around the equator - though they should still be able to point away from the equator and bounce to a ground station.  For example, the equator goes through Columbia yet Starlink is still available in southern Mexico not far away to the north.  The northern hemisphere seems to have more coverage closer to the equator, partly due to ground station availability.

With 2 adults, 3 uni students, lots of working and/or studying from home our unreliable VDSL needs to go (5.7 mbps down / 0.6 mbps up presently). There's no fibre here (stops 50 m up the road and our driveway is 500m long, plus we rent so a custom install not worth it). Looking at the waitlist for Starlink, it says "Starlink is currently at capacity in your area, so your order may not be fulfilled until 2023 or later."

I presume that's accurate, and is due to the number of satellites above my house presently (and number of starlink connections to them), and is tied to the timeline for more being launched in my area (Waitakere, Auckland)? Has anyone had a shorter wait than expected (receiving their kit in the last 6 months or so?)

Looks like you can't cheat and get it delivered to a different region, then install it elsewhere?

No WISPs available where you are? I would think there should be something in that location, surely?
