DarkShadow:
watsonash: now that I believe the 998 rollout is complete, is there any news about extending the range of VDSL viable areas (particularly as the wholesale cost of the copper connections is increasing by about $3 - which is kind of ironic when I can't get hold of fibre until end of 2019)?

We're watching this and will switch you over as soon as it is available.

for what its worth, I'm happy to be a guinea pig - there is a whole chunk of Torbay on the Auckland North shore which is ADSL only without access to fibre until mid to late 2019 and we aren't exactly in the sticks out here;
My BigPipe ref on this was; "ref:_00D90oVYy._50090uEmGJ:ref"
My stats via the ssh interface are below.
I'm running a Draytek 130 in bridge mode to a Ubiquity ER-Lite. I've a pretty deep IT software and infrastructure background so think I would make a reasonable test case.

richms: Will a line provisioned as VDSL automatically sync at ADSL if the VDSL is not achievable or does it require a change by chorus via the ISP?

When I swapped from ADSL to VDSL, my Cisco 877 wouldn't sync at all.

I'd love to see an increase in our upload speed....

I just ran Speedtest from my Surface Pro 4 over our 5Ghz network and this was the VDSL result...(the faster one is from my iMac on Ethernet)

damn looks like you have some wireless issues there.  i found using the higher band for 5 ghz rather than auto gave me quite a large improvement, so did moving
my router like a foot in one direction and slightly raised.

that said that was to a desktop pc, brought it up from around 120 to 200 megabit iirc.

yep definatly a wifi issue there

Thats mine on both 5GHz wifi and Ethernet. I get the same result.

And last night (early this morning on the 18th), the last VDSL capable ISAM was upgraded to the appropriate SW version and changed to Bandplan 998. I went from 39/10 to 56/12 so I'm pretty happy with that.

Chorus will now do a full audit to see if there are any oddities but the planned work is complete.

Cheers - N

@Talkiet do know if they are then going to investigate a longer reach for VDSL?

I have no knowledge of that. I would personally be VERY surprised if they invest any money in that however.

I wish they would help me out with doing a card upgrade to the Broadcom.

I'm limited to 70/30 because of the Ikanos card, where my line is capable of up to 110/40.

I've already contacted Chorus, and they advised they're focusing on UFB but to contact my ISP to see if they can help with 'improving speeds'
Well theres nothing my ISP (Spark) can do but submit a ticket to Chorus with the request I already asked them about which they didn't really give me a straight answer....

Please dont complain about your line speed. Your getting the maximum. Sure it could do more if they put another line card in but your on the limit anyway.
Dont forget we all hated the broadcom cards when we tried to tweak VDSL in that thread made by SamF.
@hio77

Anyway, I could get 130Mb/s if they didnt limit the stupid broadcom to 100 ;).

It's not like im going off at people about a fault, but when my line is only getting 70% of its potential, I have a right to ask them what I can do to optimise my service - especially when I have to live with being limited to VDSL for another 3 years unless I move.

Not trying to argue with you but please see the light. Your getting 100% of your line capabilities :).

Anyhow, What you can do at this stage is make sure your line is stable so you get DLM-1. All that will change is a lower ping.

Limited to 70Mb/s is not a single problem. Come on, be happy. Many people are still dwelling on ADSL.

My line is only getting around 30% of its potential, but I just can't seem to convince them that they should install a new cabinet right outside my property so I can get the speeds I deserve.  :p

You absolutely have that right... I hope the Spark rep told you that we (Spark) have no way to influence Chorus investment decisions apart from highlighting where we notice customers are having issues. In your case we wouldn't even think about escalating your case to Chorus or asking them to upgrade the card. You're already getting exceptional xDSL speeds.

Cheers - N
