InstallerUFB: If a Yr1/2 Chorus UFB cabinet got bowled there would be more damage and take longer to fix than a FFTN cabinet in respect that apart from replaceing the physical cabinet (depending on how hard it was hit ) which has to be done from below ground and built up in layers, each of the 26way microduct tube bundles would have to be cut and a section replaced (depending on strenching - they are clamped to sections of the cabinet base) this needs to be done before the cabinet can be reassembled. only when the cabinet is all back together can all the working distribution fibres be reblown to the houses and spliced back in at the ETPs

Am I reading too much into this if I ask if the Yr3 cabinets will be different?
Are all UFB cabinets above ground?

The Chorus Yr3 (Year 3 onward) network architecture is different than those for Yr1 & 2 but physicaly the cabinets look the same from the outside. All standard UFB cabinets are above ground. Iinitialy in Yr3 architecture areas the blown fibre intermediary points (ABFAT - Air Blown Fibre Access Terminal) will be above ground (they arent used in yr1/2) but they are developing versions to go in a manhole

Quick Answer No - it depends on how much of the equipment is recoverable but i would assume from a expediencey point of view they would install all new and then see what is reuseable (and by the look of it not much). a ball park figure you wouldnt get much change out of 150K. Like any damage to the Chorus Network, not caused by natural event, the cost of repairs is changed to the doer.
