ace001nz: This has only been a problem since the government announced unbundling the local loop. In my opinion it's Telecom packing a sad and trying to make everyones life a missery so they can turn around and say we told you it wouldn't work.

Have to agree on this one!

cant comment on Orcon as Telecom are doing adsl upgrades and this is affecting various ISP's. This thread is specifically about Ihug's reliability.

In a nutshell, this is my experience.

Iconz (wired country) excellent reliability, rare connection drops and ability to stay online for over a week ona regular basis. Im one of those one's that just turns the monitor off :-)

Ihug (wired country) . Within half an hour of connecting to Ihug i get Poor reliability, authentication issues and frequent connection drops, DNS issues, hard to stay online for more than a hour sometimes.

My question is.. why the huge performance drop from Iconz to Ihug? The above issues seem to be common with both adsl and wireless customers

Damager: Im convinced it's Ihug software or hardware that contributes to the DNS and connection and authentication problems. When i was with Iconz (wired country) i had stability all the time. With Ihug (wired country) ive had nothing but instability!
Try Orcon than... By your thoughts Orcon software and hardware must be not up to scratch either. ))

Bronko, Damager is talking about a Wireless service, it doesn't go through Telcoms DSLAMS or copper network, its point-to-point or line of site InfraRed... wireless.

WiredCountry(Yes the name belies its service) is the backbone/infrastructure of the service with Ihug or ICONZ as the ISP using and re-selling the Wireless product.

Very much like Telecom is the current backbone and Orcon/XTRA/WorldNet etc are the ISPs providing ADSL.

Damager is making the point that it's not just ihug broadband but ALSO their grandfathered Wireless re-sale products as well.
