Ok, I will clarify since codyc1515 could be bothered to actually explain the image, or the context.

I posted that image on Twitter. It's a screenshot of Sky CEO's presentation today at the Future Broadband conference in Auckland. When he showed that image he said people got the whole "Netflix is not coming to NZ because of Sky" wrong.

He said they do not hold all the rights, and the ones they hold are not exclusive.

Basically the ball is in Netflix's court.

Meanwhile, in the US mobile companies like AT&T and Sprint started throttling their 5% top users.

These are the companies people keep using as example when talking about "unlimited mobile data" - which won't be long. Also cable companies in the US are already implementing caps (at 250GB a bit higher than ours, but a cap nonetheless).

lokhor: I'd be interested in seeing the average usage of a Netflix or Hulu subscriber in the States. We don't have services like that due to our data caps.

40GB per month average netflix user.

Datacaps in NZ are more than enough for this, for those willing to pay.

IOW it is not the existence of the datacaps that is the problem per se, it is the price they are set at, and how people prioritise their spend. Average datacap in NZ is 20GB, but to upgrade to 40GB or more typically only costs an extra $10/month.

Thats probably correct. We use about 30GB per month, which includes Netflix (average of about 1hour per day)

No. The 50GB in one day of my latest cycly was mainly the end of a 60GB backup I started the last day of my previous cycle.

We do use Apple iTunes and download quite a few movies every month, but this consumption is mainly because both myself and wife work from home, including online backup services (Crashplan, Windows Live Mesh) in and out.

Why can't the likes of Fatso (owned by Skytv) offer streaming movies. They offer them on DVD, and if Netflix have the rights to stream content, then surely Fatso could negotiate the same rights?

Why give our monthly fee to a US company when there are companies based in NZ which we can support..

Anyone from Fatso care to elaborate?
