I see that Starlink are now selling the mesh unit here. At $265 for a unit with basic specs, I don't see most GZ members being interested. However the unit is very simple to setup, so it could be good value for some people.

We would love to grab the Starlink mesh system, but it is only available for those that have the square dish.

I presume the square dish that comes with a different router to the one supplied with the round dish.

Hi all, I live the caravan life and am set up permanently in a camp-ground. There is a wifi service that is absolute rubbish and so I recently invested in Starlink. Is there any way, using the new mesh pods, that I can set up a service for my neighbours? It would help with the cost. Is it possible to provide them with username/passwords of their own or would they all have to log-on as me? Cheers.

They just connect to your WiFi. They don't need the Starlink app. If you got / get the Ethernet adapter you may be able to plug in a separate Ethernet to a switch / wifi AP for them to use.

Linuxluver: They just connect to your WiFi. They don't need the Starlink app. If you got / get the Ethernet adapter you may be able to plug in a separate Ethernet to a switch / wifi AP for them to use.

@tonyflew definitely do the latter if you can. Set up a wifi AP that has support for a guest SSID with client isolation, this will ensure that they can't mess with your (or each other's) devices on the same LAN and may also allow you to throttle Guest bandwidth. The guest SSID will be different to your private wifi SSID, both can share the internet but you will be the only one that can communicate with other devices on the LAN (eg. connecting to the antenna to stow, check for obstructions, etc).

Anyone know why latency is all over the place today. Checked with multiple users and most seem to have an issue.

Any ideas and possible things I can try to debug? Starlink support sent a response telling me I probably have cabling issues.

I've got a couple of questions and I should warn you, me and Technology have a very fickle relationship!

The obvious benefits have me sold, but how easy was the actual mounting/fixing of the dish? What are some of the problems you've encountered with the mounting? (keep it clean😉)

Will I need extra cables? If so, what?

Does everything I need come in the box?

And @Linuxluver seeing as you asked first, you can be my 'referral'!!

The installation is common sense to a degree but I would say if you know someone with a little IT knowledge it would be beneficial. With regard to mounting it depends how picky you are :). I did an installation for a friend in Masterton and he just screwed the default stand you get with Starlink onto the ridges of his iron roof. I re-used my old satellite dish mount, the dish slides into the top and I used some pvc pipe to take up the excess play. where abouts in Kapiti are you? I'm in Palmerston North you are welcome to come and check out my install if you like?

I didn't mount my dish as in the back of my mind I wanted to keep it portable. My dish sits on my lawn and the cable comes into the house via a window I then closed. It's all aluminium window with a reasonable large pane, so the seal is still good and it doesn't damage the cable. If I want / need to I can pack the whole thing in the car boot in under 10 minutes. Mobile Starlink. If have to sign up for the $40/month roaming option for at least a month.
