I think that the upstream figure is probably correct on mine and would be the speed I would get if there was no upstream sync limit.

I've done a speed test and got actual throughput of >9Mbps with the Fritzbox reporting an upstream attainable throughput of 1128, so I pay no attention to it.

If there were no limit's on uploads you would probably be on 50Mbps+. VDSL2 is 100Mbps/100Mbps so based on your line stats I'd say you'd easily get 50/50 if Chorus opened it up.

Correct, but slightly incorrect.

Chorus only use 8MHz and 17MHz profiles, 17MHz offers 100/50. They don't offer a 30MHz profile so you can't get 100/100.

I do wonder here. Why do not not always offer the 17MHz profiles and also why dont they offer the 30MHz profile. my appologys if you've already gone over this before.

They'd have to change the spectrum and/or the profile. If you look at the spectrum tab you can estimate how many extra upload bits you could use. In my case I think I could about double my upload.

Well I'm back from holiday and still on DLM1 with target SNRM at 8 through SNR Tweaking. As previously this has resulted in a CRCPM somewhere between 1 - 1.5. FEC has increased considerably, but as we've seen in the past this doesn't seem to be having much effect.

Anyway, I don't think there's much new to show from my connection, but I'll share current stats anyway. Been running this for approx 4 weeks.

So I've been doing a little SNRM tweaking...



:D  I think that's a record actually!



However, as you can see, the errors aren't too hot...

So I've settled on this for now as it seems to be a bit of a sweet spot:






I really can't complain about that!

~3 CRCPM after a couple of hours, so we'll see how this goes in the longer term!


For the record, here's the results of all the SNRM tweaks I tried tonight:

-10db (Max) SNRM:
Sync DS: 58888
CRCPM: 40 (after 1min)
Speedtest: 55.13

-8db SNRM:
DS Sync: 56768
CRCPM: 13 (3min)
Speedtest: 53.23

-7db SNRM:
DS Sync: 56400
CRCPM: 6 (12min)
Speedtest: 52.00

-6db SNRM:
DS Sync: 55584
CRCPM: 3 (2 hrs)
Speedtest: 52.1


As you can see, the gains above -6db on my line are minimal and the errors increase exponentially...

Received my Fritz!Box 7390 today from Snap. Getting connected to VDSL on 18th January.

I connected it all up with my current ADSL connection and Receive direction was 29500 and Send direction was 9500 as per the stats screen. I do not have a master splitter installed and only use 1 phone jack in the house which has both the modem and phone connected to it via a small ADSL filter. Went with Naked VDSL as that seems to give the best results over a physical phone line VDSL connection according to Snap.

Anything I can do on the Fritz!Box to improve my stats overall? Happy with what it shows as I mostly wanted the better upload speed because I want to host the games on Xbox Live.

Will post screenshots of various stats from the modem tonight.

Also is there a tool available to do SNRM tweaking or a write up somewhere?

Yup, standard answer: install a splitter or wire your incoming line directly to the socket that the router is on and disconnect all other sockets...

As for SNRM tweaking; you're in luck! I'm intending to write something up in the first post tonight or tomorrow. Watch this space.

Thanks SamF for the write up. I have a Splitter sitting on my desk. Reason why I am not installing it is because I have Fibre connected right outside my house and every other house in the street now. Waiting for local cabinet (AFAIK, it's already done upgrading) and exchange to get upgraded with fibre setup as well. Then I can move straight to Fibre with Snap. Snap does not offers UFB in Hamilton for some reason atm. When they will, I will switch over.

I would have to get someone over to do the Splitter install as I do not have a clue where to even begin installing this small little brick?

Not a problem.

If you're getting fibre soon, then just disconnect all non DSL jack points and you're done!

@billgates: If your jackpoints are daisy chained together and you're connecting to the first one, it's pretty easy to just open it up and disconnect the rest, at least it was in my case.

Otherwise wiring a master filter is pretty easy though it will depend on your existing wiring. You could open your ETP and post a pic and we could probably help... Or I think coffeebaron covers Hamilton :-)

As for tweaking anything on the Fritzbox itself I wouldn't bother just yet - first up just make sure your wiring is good then once connected let DLM settle before looking at tweaking stuff. Only thing I would suggest is a factory resest when they switch you from ADSL to VDSL - the fritzbox used to sometimes get stuck with limited upload rates when running it on ADSL then switching to VDSL.

For SNR Tweaking I just follow @maxzzzs method on page 4 of this thread and it has worked a charm. His post has a link to tool to do it - it's in german but just follow his screenies.
