I have all cabling disconnected from the line apart from the single cable into the Draytek 130. A master socket was put in when the Chorus technician was checking the ADSL line a couple of years ago.

BigPipe has requested a line check - but to be honest it seems people on fringe vdsl like I seem to be have the same experience - crap upload speed and slightly better download speed, and most of these edge cases (like the type that 998 was supposed to enable) are likely to have similar experience and other postings suggest downgrade to ADSL may be preferable.....

I believe I'm about 1.2km from the exchange.

4 years for fibre.. i really hope something can be with this VDSL - although it looks like I'm so out of luck on this....

I just wish technology would just work - it always feels like such a beeping battle (and I work in IT!).

If someone could tell me how to get a spectrum graph out of a draytek 130 in bridge mode to a UBNT ERLite-3 - I'll gladly post the info.

you mention a chorus tech installed a master socket for ADSL, is it possible they installed an ADSL master filter at the time? If so this would need to be removed/upgraded as it would be hindering your performance currently.

I dont have a DV130 handy to direct you, or i would gladly.

a friendly bigpipe CSR around here could probably pull graphs from their end for you too. - Although i wouldnt suggest going around bugging the lot of them

thanks - by master socket - I mean all wiring was disconnected apart from to the single socket with the single lead going to the Draytek - there is no filter what soever on the line. I think Bigpipe were expecting me to get better performance which is why they have logged a fault with Chorus.

You can get spectrum data out of a Vigor 130 ?? 'vdsl showbins' in the web console gives me a big table of zeroes.

Ah okay, likely that isnt the case then. Hard to know what people mean when they use terms like master socket. it could simply mean a BT jackpoint with the big M on it afterall!

unlikely unless chorus upgrade all their maps, but you should be able to ask their ISP for a prequal and if the figures come back under 15dB then they should be good to order it

Just spoke to someone at Spark via online chat and they said that my parents' address is currently at 13-16dB so I am hoping they might be in luck. They might not get much better than ADSL speeds, however they're only getting 4Mbps at the moment because they need a master splitter installed. If they get VDSL, the installation (which includes the master splitter) is free on a 12-month contract, so that would be preferable to paying for a master splitter alone to improve their ADSL speeds. The plan would cost an extra $10 per month so they certainly wouldn't come out worse off, and they might get slightly better speeds than if they just sorted their splitter out and stayed on ADSL.

Waiting for the 28th with fingers crossed!

May aswell do a master filter installation itself for the ADSL anyway.

because of the range, you will likely need a manual prequal.

If they can't get VDSL they might still do that, but I think it's worth waiting to see if a free install with VDSL is still an option. Fibre is due June 2017 so they might just decide to stick with the speed they have until it's available. I hope they do something that results in better speeds, because they're always asking me to help them download something (like Mac OS updates) and it usually takes hours.

I hope so. Spark did mine a little while back and I got the full master splitter/modem setup.

I have two questions.

1. I had my VDSL connected today and I am getting reasonable 22DL/2.4UL speeds compared to ADSL. How do check whether I am running Band Plan 998?

2. What exactly will happen on 28 April, can I expect speeds to change or is what I have it?

You are already on 998.

Nothing will happen after the 28th, apart from maybe more connections taking up vdsl and added crosstalk.

stats before your move to vdsl out of curiosity?

Who's your ISP and did they do a Master Filter install?

Use the Chorus maps checker to check the speeds of people around your address...

Cheers - N

Considering your vdsl was only installed today, DLM could potentially move around in the next week rather aggressively, and land on a slightly higher or lower sync for stability/performance.
