Yank1w1:

Seems like it might be global issues.   Starlink app has message stating degraded service and that they are investigating.  Twitter has many posts about outages.

Remember Ukraine is using Starlink for their military coordination and they began a major counter-offensive early today to re-take Kherson.

The Russians don't like Starlink.

Yes, it was terrible during peak evening time but seems to have settled down now.

That explains the amount of alerts I received tonight from several of my monitored sites.

I’m helping a neighbour with their Starlink install and was wondering what the best bargeboard mount would be.  The Starlink “Short Wall Mount” (see picture below) doesn’t look that robust to me (there would be only 2 screws holding it into 30mm pine).  Was thinking that a strut lying on the roof would beef things up, but we would need to make sure that the dish couldn’t hit the strut when stowed.  (U bolt around SL mast, then strut attached to roof)

(For my own install I used a roof mount that is strong , but our neighbour would prefer to minimise the number of holes in their roof.)

Depending on the roofing material/ profile  the standard sky dish roof mount (like your model) uses the existing roofing screws to hold the mount on the roof. No new holes are required.

Yeah, some of the existing holes could be "re-purposed".  And I do like the standard sky dish roof mount, but as this is not my house I'd prefer not to interfere with the roof for a couple of reasons:

-the house is often empty for weeks, so any slow leaks might not be noticed for a while

-I'm not sure if there are any building regulations or insurance implications

-I'm not an expert at this...

The "short wall mount" should be fine as long as the lag bolts are going into a decent stud behind the barge board.

If it's an iron roof, then satellite mount and adaptor is best option. Done correctly, there should be no leaks. Getting the cable run is the tricky part.

I received the same a few days ago and saw one on a nearby street yesterday.

Seems odd they'd be promoting this service in parts of suburban Auckland with gigabit fibre access at around half the price. Those who need it will surely seek it out and be willing to pay for it. Unless they're going to compete with fibre in a meaningful way (cost and features), this just seems like a waste of money.

I got the same. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to put the dishy on the roof of my apartment and dangerously swing the cables inside my apartment. Something about health and safety and the owner of the apartment block might get a little upset with the holes I’d have to make to secure it.

(In all seriousness having more options is great but I live in Christchurch where enable fibre is everywhere)
