As pih mentions already - Starlink hardware 50% off to my surprise by email this morning.  Thought I'd upload the email imagery.

It seems from the Starlink map that they've managed to iron out most of their NZ black-spots, perhaps with laser links partly.  They seem to have got all of Australia covered now too - there was a large chunk of northern Australia 'missing' connection.

Nice to see the Chathams covered, but what are these other places:

Maybe they're supposed to be Auckland Is & Campbell Is, but in that case they're hundreds of kilometres out of position?

Looking at a map, isn’t that Antipodes Island?

Comparing https://www.starlink.com/map with Google Maps, I get

https://www.google.co.nz/maps/@-48.0308526,166.6049648,13z - North East Island / Broughton Island

https://www.google.co.nz/maps/@-49.684352,178.7986525,12z - Antipodes Island

I'm sure Starlink must be a life-changer to these and other islands!

Edited to add - if you zoom in enough on the Starlink map, it will show island names too.

Well that 50% off offer was the thing to get me across the line. So tired of my pathetically slow 20/1Mbps VDSL.

Looking forward to getting it setup.

Welcome to the club. In my view it's a game changer for anyone outside the UFB zones.

1 - Chatham Is
2 - Antipodes Is
3 - Broughton / North East Is
4 - Auckland Is
5 - Campbell Is
6 - Macquarie Is

They must have the laser ISLs working reliably to give service way down there

Yes well unfortunately I'm located right smack in the middle of that North Shore Auckland waitlist (Paremoremo) but apparently it's expanding in 2023 so I guess that's something.

Has anyone tried starlink for RV in NZ yet? As getting campervan and moving to the south island early next year and this looks like it will allow me to remote work with zoom a lot better when I'm not home.

I know of a number of people that chose to order recently even though it said waitlisted until 2023 and they have already received their dish. So if you want it, order it. We've found it a game changer. And I've just checked the app and I've broken 1TB usage in a month this month.

Oh sweet, that's encouraging at least. I've definitely ordered and paid the deposit, so I'm on the waiting list - just waiting further confirmation from Starlink.

Tell you what, upper atmospheric conditions must have been pretty funky last night.

All those thunderstorms played havoc with our streaming experience as they rolled through.

Also generated quite an outage log as well!

Something I just noticed, but it looks like Starlink may now allow you to re-connect a disconnected Dishy - as in I presume if you stop(ped) paying for Starlink you can now re-initiate a contract & connection.  That sounds great, and don't necessarily need the RV arrangement to have some flexibility over payments.  May make it easier to re-sell Dishies too, which can only save Starlink money and make the most use of hardware out there already.

Ha! I just ordered Starlink yesterday with the deal they were offering at $520.

But now I see there is a possible cap of 100mbps download speed incoming....unless I am reading this incorrectly and or it won't apply to NZ.

No, that's not a cap, it's the "expected" speeds. Starlink is variable, for sure, but they don't limit you to 100Mbps.
