Just noticed I'm getting an IPV6 address on a Starlink connection. I'm not sure if that's new, or I just haven't noticed ir?

IPv6 has been off and on since they launched the service in NZ, but since December 2022 it has been up and stable with a /56 prefix delegation over DHCPv6. The delegated subnet for me hasn't changed over 3 months - so it might even be a static one (but don't count on it).

$ curl -s https://geoip.starlinkisp.net/feed.csv|grep NZ|grep ::
2406:2d40:4200::/40,NZ,NZ-AUK,Auckland,
2406:2d40:7200::/40,NZ,NZ-AUK,Auckland,

$

Edit: spelling

I've had Starlink installed at a rural Bay of Plenty property since May last year. Initially performance was excellent. Since December I have been suffering frequent 'micro' outages, mostly less than 1s, but sufficient for my security cameras to report they are offline multiple times per day (very annoying). Starlink support were initially helpful. As the onset of the issue coincided with some bad weather they suspected a lightening strike and replaced the Starlink router and ethernet dongle (not the dishy). This did not fix the problem. I swapped out my Edgerouter POE for a Mikrotik but the same issue persists. I've had to resort to 4g Failover which makes me wonder why I am paying $150 per month. Starlink support has now vanished - I have an open ticket from 8 days ago unanswered. App reports multiple examples of 'network issue' (Satellite cannot connect to groundstation) or 'no signal received' (dish cannot connect to satellite). Does anyone else have similar issues?

If you can't get this fixed, have you looked into a local WISP you could get service from?

Still waiting for my area to be expanded 😢 - says it's coming in 2023.

Seriously considering a Wireless provider at this rate so I can get off this god awful copper service.

Rock solid here in the Waikato. Nothing to report currently on outage logs and it’s been so fault-free I haven’t even checked the app for months

Where have you got the dish mounted? Any possible signal blocks (like a high tree)

I used to have micro outages a lot but it settled down.

I have been experiencing longer outages with the recent weather. But also, sunny sky here, raining heavily in Auckland, outage

Dish is mounted on the garage roof at the highest point on a 2m TV pole. There is another high point of the roof to the south approx 8m away and maybe 0.5m higher, and then some trees maybe 30m away. What angle above the horizon should be clear?

The Starlink App includes a Statistics page which shows you outages and whether they are due to obstruction of your dish, or network issues further upstream. It also includes a "snow globe" sort of view showing any obstructions to your dish from trees, etc. From your comments it sounds like you might not have checked this yet.

Also worth checking is the debug data (either from the Starlink app or http://dishy.starlink.com/debug).  (You will probably need a static route for 192.168.100.1 in your mikrotik for the web option to work)

Is the 2m TV pole stable?

Believe me have looked at dubug data and outage stats endlessly. Did a stow/unstow today. Dish seemed to re-orient more due South than S/SE. I thought this might fix it but seems worse - perhaps not the best day to do this as the rain has come in. The tv pole does have standard braces applied and seems quite solid.

Looking at your outages seems to indicate that you have some minor obstructions. Have you used the Starlink App to check for obstructions from the location you have mounted your dish.  It does not take much of an intrusion to cause issues.  Remember the dish may not move while tracking the satellites, electronically it uses a phased array to track across the sky.

On another note.  After a 10 year wait, fiber has been installed in my neighborhood.   Subsequently I have an 2 year old Gen 1 Starlink dish to sell.  Advantage of Gen1 is no Ethernet dongle is required and it is easy to connect directly to your firewall/router.  DM me if interested.  Comes in the original box.
