TimA:Athlonite: out of them both I'd choose Orcon (and I did)
Poor Athlonite for picking the wrong provider :(

PocketSmith for budgeting and personal finance management. A great Kiwi company.
jacwlg: Is any of these ISPs willing to pay for the early termination penalty to help a prospective customer switch?

Based on my only experience with Orcon, I would agree. 7 weeks and 5 mistakes/errors/problems errors down the track, and HOPEFULLY a client's Business VDSL installation will be correctly completed today. TBH I'm not counting my chickens.

Probably not for a residential customer. Have you spoken with the sales team?

Order not correctly placed on 13 March. Order placed 'correctly' following a phone call from me (unrecorded date). Followed up 4 April for an ETA and was advised by phone that the order had been placed. Checked some details and found the address was wrong - different suburb. Install rebooked. Install day comes (Friday) and tech does his bit and leaves a new outlet on the wall for the VDSL and then (I understand) heads to the Exchange. I go out the next business day (Monday) to configure the new router and am told (when I phone the call centre) that the install is not complete and is scheduled to be completed Wednesday. Wednesday comes and goes with no confirmation. A second 'finish the install day' comes and goes with no confirmation, then a backdated bill arrives (now credited). Completion rebooked - theoretically today.
I've been dealing with Cara (who has been very responsive to communication). The installation is in the Mangere Bridge area - she'll almost certainly know it if you happen to ask.
Fortunately it is an additional connection for this company. We'll be migrating to it and then closing off an old Bizo (?) connection which is actually an old and relatively expensive TCL DSL circuit. Unfortunately the old equipment at the client's end is misbehaving (partially promoting the change) and they have had to put up with VPN reliability issues. I keep telling the staff that there is light at the end of the tunnel, but they will have stopped believing me by now. The new firewall is sitting by the wiring cabinet in its box awaiting the VDSL. I keep having to re-date the invoice for the firewall as I can't charge them for new equipment that they are not using.
Cheers
Mike

Chorus are blaming this on "an extensive cable fault", Ive asked for a full report from both Chorus and our Business Provisioning.

FireEngine:solaybro:plambrechtsen: Telecom 'cause we are awesome.
My problem with you guys is that the modem you supply only has 100Mbps ethernet ports. I am planning on getting a nas server set up soon and I would like gigabit ports. I could just buy my own modem though but it's hard to find VDSL modems in New Zealand, no where sells them.
The new Orcon Genius White has Gigabit ports.....just saying

Meh, ancient history..... ;-)
networkn: I can't recall how many times in the last 10 years I have heard Orcon claim such things.
