I can't imagine many ISPs installing handovers in 151 new towns. Is there some sort of change to allow UFB services to be delivered without needing handovers everywhere? Or can they "piggyback" off the UFB1 areas (eg. a handover in Whakatane also working for Ohope, Edgecumbe, Matata, etc)?

Are you stating that as fact or questioning or suggesting it?

I would expect so but as backhaul/tail extension is not a regulated offering it is an arrangement to be made between LFCs/Chorus and RSPs.

I thought so too. I can't find a map of Enable's pre-UFB coverage (P2P fibre), but do you know if they reached out to Akaroa?

Chorus had a bit of an incumbent advantage in the small towns all over NZ, as they already have backbone fibre in place for FTTN cabinets/exchanges

As a side note and if it's not too much off topic, RBI, what is the general maximum data usage on those type of accounts? I have a place in Coromandel which is part of an 18 unit holiday accomodation, there is 1 adsl line for all of us.. not practical...

Some places don't even have ADSL1 - Haast comes to mind. I think 4G would typically be the alternative (via RBI) but I see that Haast doesn't even have 3G!

The next phase of internet rollout is RBI2: http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/80992082/Drive-to-get-best-value-could-hold-up-UFB2-RBI2-broadband-projects. RBI2 is going to be wireless 4G (5G?) towers (and maybe other stuff) put in places that don't get coverage from fibre. They couldn't start that until the fibre was announced to prevent both servicing the same area.
