Thanks Guys. That helps me understand alot more. I am wondering why my connection has improved so much...when for 5 months its been terrible for gaming. Have Orcon done something to improve my issues? Latency gaming is gone now which is great. I'd like to know why?
I thought orcon did interleaving off by default, or maybe that was slingshot? Perhaps they finally purchased more bandwidth?
I had similar stats to your before getting cabinetised, which isnt suprising since it's the same suburb. I was quoted at 3.5km line length to Te Rapa. For me G.DMT gave slightly better results than ADSL2+ modulation.
If theres a cabinet being setup on your street chances are you'll be on it when its finished, which will shoot your speeds up to 20mbit most likely, though i only throughput 10.
Yes correct.... Orcon always had interleaving turned off by default and were awesome before April/May this year when everything turned to custard. Duncan Blair has not responded to my posts here regarding why my Orcon connection has returned to normal after 5 months of ARGH !!!! I get frustrated just thinking about it. Something has happened since Tuesday? Either Orcon have given me more bandwidth or it has something to do with the Chorus cabinet being completed down my street. 5 months of bad latency and in-consistent speeds would make you think I had a faulty line...or lack of bandwidth rather than the cabinet makers. I'm not complaining I'm just happy I have my good old connection speed back without the latency. I'll stay with Orcon while they perform like this.
Yeah switching ISP's can be a bit of a pain, so i suppose staying with orcon is ideal. As cyril7 i think said, your line stats still point to a 3.5km line with no cabinet, you'd see full speed almost if you were using the cabinet on your street, so whatever has happened is due to what orcon has done.
Just something I noticed this morning on the way to work, regarding the Cabnet on the corner of Sunnyside road / Avalon Drive in Hamilton, around 20m down Sunnyside road there is a Telecom branded silver pannel (like a man hole cover?) with a lot of cones next to it so I assume thats going to be the location of the new cabnet there. They are getting onto it pretty early as the chorus website says that cabnet is not meant to go live until 1 Jan 2009
