BarTender: Johnr but the telecom xt device also supports 900mhz too.

I also tried my vodafone novatel 870, however that was equally unreliable.

The problem with the hsdpa / 3g transition is that if you are in a patchey area the modem can spend all it's time doing the transition and never give you a solid connection. Which is just as useful as having no call at all.

I'll give it another go today and see how it goes...

MF626 only does 850MHz WCDMA, it doesn't do 900 WCDMA only 900 GSM.

Signal strength shouldn't make too much difference in the CELL_FACH / CELL_DCH handovers, it's something that just occurs automatically if you're not transferring data.

The speed in HB on Vodafone was fine for me over the weekend

If I could get these speeds in Rotorua I would be happy, I am getting over 1mbps today though so that's positive

Ahh that would explain it john. Thanks for that.
It's a shame that the older vodafone supplied datacard devices won't work out of the metro's due to not supporting gsm 3g at 900mhz.
So I also assume the older expresscard huawei (I think it's the e618??) support 900mhz 3g either.

I think it's going to be a prepaid xt holiday..

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Big difference, now over 3mbps - this from this morning

Last night BEFORE the upgrade this was the test

Thanks John, it looks good might need to increase the data cap now as it looks like it's going to go faster
