Well, I re-wired my lounge this evening and had the router powered off for ~30min. After plugging it in again I now have the highest sync rate I've ever had along with one of the lowest error rates I've ever had (at least without tweaking)!

Previous to this I was getting unusually high error rates. I also notice that my attenuation has somehow improved by 2db! It just goes to show the value of powering off your Fritz for 5+ minutes if the connection is behaving abnormally!

So after getting back on DLM-1 I decided to do a little tweaking (as you do). I got back up to my previously stable ~54mbits and was pretty happy with my 0.7 CRCPM error rate. However, this morning I was dumped back to DLM-2!? What the!!??

Perhaps the DLM-1 error threshold has been adjusted down again!? What the the error rates like for the rest of you on DLM-1?

Also, yet more proof that a 5min power down is good for the soul... ermm error rate; after I was put on DLM-2:
Before: 0.3 CRCPM
After: 0 CRCPM

Doh! Did you power down\disconnect the modem for a decent time while doing the tweaking and rebooting? I still stick with my process of: disconnect incoming line, change settings, leave for 5+ minutes before reconnecting process any time I'm going to reboot or tweak.

I'm currently sitting on 0.43 CRCPM with SNRM tweaked to 9db.

What the the error rates like for the rest of you on DLM-1?

Damn. I wish we had some concrete information on exactly how this stuff worked.

My error rate on DLM-1 is about 0.6 CRC/min. I'm still on 17a. The connection has been up 25 days.

I'm coming up to 4 days now on DLM1 with a CRCpm of 2. I was on a CRCpm of 20 for a day until I increased the SNR to 13.

Fingers crossed it stays on DLM1. I'm just going to forget about it and hope 2CRCpm is ok.

Hmm, I didn't last a day on DLM-1 with a 0.7 CRCPM!? Admittedly there were periods where the error rate was up to 2, but it was only at that level for a few hours; after a bit of tweaking it dropped down to 0.7. I wonder if there are factors other than just CRCPM involved?

Disconnects are definitely a factor as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they are more important than error rate.

Well according to the documentation I've read, user initiated disconnects are not counted as a sign of instability, but whether that's actually true or not I don't know.

But how does the DLM tell what is "user initiated"? Pulling the cable obviously wouldn't count. Probably if you pulled the power the it wouldn't be able to tell it was user initiated either.

To be honest, I don't know for sure. All I really know is what the documentation said.

However, I can speculate that the system has some method of determining this; perhaps a 'clean' disconnect vs a disconnect that appears to be caused by excessive errors?

I found making sure no other devices were plugged into the power strip of the Fritz got my errors down to 0.07 on DLM 1.

I think any loss of sync whether it be user initiated or not factors heavily on DLM. When I got bumped to DLM6 I had an CRCpm of 0. But in a 3 day period I believe I had reset my router 7-8 times trying some changes. Next thing I know I'm not DLM3 with a sync 10Mbps less then before and my CRCpm was even high compared to the 0 I had.

So at that point I decided I'd just leave the router alone and 7 weeks later with only one reset in that time I was on DLM1. The change from DLM6 to 1 happened over 3 nights.

The only change I've made since DLM 1 was my SNR increase to 13 as 9CRCpm seemed too high. I've been on 2CRCpm for 5 days now. I've got an electrician coming round next week to run some cat5e so will be interesting to see how that affects it.

wow thats a lot of resets. blaming the resets for my change to DLM6 was all I could see as being an issue as i said my errors were on 0-0.1 over a 6 week period then bang i'm on DLM6 with more errors then I had before.

I wonder if we could request information on the VDSL setup Chorus run under the freedom of information act.
