tim0001:
Our SL connection stayed at a almost constant 50Mbps.
This is exactly what I've been reading over at the Starlink sub and in the comments...Downloads start off really good - approx 200Mbps ...then they say around 15 mins in on the large download, they go down to 50 Mbps.
I've not seen 'throttling' exactly, though I believe speeds have been limited during peak busy times which I just put down to contention. From my experience, the PS5 doesn't download at the speeds Starlink is capable of. Other downloads - e.g. Epic Games on PC download much faster/better. I've experimented with a few things on PS5 - like Ethernet or forcing it to use 5Ghz.
Mike61: Installed starlink yesterday and had speeds of 90 - 100 Mbps using the built in speedtest. Tonight it has been down to 4.5Mbps. Only difference is it is raining. Anyone else seen this?
It should be better than that. But sometimes it takes a day or so for the dish to settle in and download the latest firmware. It updates automatically, but you can check the date of your version here
I found the starlink speedtest to be under-reporting. Use the advanced speed test and it will be much better. Also try other speed tests on your browser

I've only seen weather related issues once when we got low speed with frequent drop outs. But that was during some very heavy thunderstorm activity that I put that one down to crazy electromagnetic type stuff going on in the upper atmosphere at the time.
Normal heavy rain hasn't been an issue in my experience.

Using Wifi or Ethernet cable?
If Wifi, if a 'reboot' doesn't improve things, try 'stow' and then power down dish. Wait a min or 2, power back on. Should take around 20 minutes to reach a reasonable connection, through to a few hours for optimal.
If cable, check you ethernet cable connection speed. It should be a 1Gbit connection. If it defaults down to a 100Mbit fast ethernet connection, your Starlink Ethernet link is suss. It's a thing. RMA it.
You might be better off trying a fully fledged router rather than an access point or wi-fi extender.
I've got a first gen round dish so it's was simply a case of unplugging the Starlink wi-fi router and in plugging my own device, didn't have to buy an adaptor.
From what I can gather, it's still possible with the square dish using the ethernet adaptor but you have to enable bypass/bridge mode in the app first.
At which point you loose direct access to the dish via the Starlink app.
This was easily rectified on my first-gen dish by setting up a static route (guides plus You Tube videos are available).
I'm assuming that's still possible with a square dish.
My partner has found that (opposite to what she hoped for) starlink is preventing her from accessing her work server from home. According to the tech support they are seeing frequent dropouts and advised that while that is not an issue for normal internet browsing or streaming, it is a problem for accessing remote servers. Commented that this is a common issue with starlink
We hadnt checked this during the free trial period because tech support took a long time to look into it and we really had no idea this might be an issue
There were no outages in the 2second range in the app but a lot in the 0.1 second range. Not sure if this has been all the time or not. App says no obstructions although there is the odd red tinge on the edges. Dish is just 3 feet of the ground at the time. Of course the first thing they will tell is put the dish on the roof, but not convinced that is the issue (from reading various forums)
We did reset the router a few days ago
We will continue with it for a month or two but if the work access issue cant be fixed its back to adsl

From many of the installs I have done, mounting on roof makes a difference most of the time.

Gven that Starlink use CGNAT, remote access is very troublesome. I've been forced to use ZeroTier and TailScale to allow one of my clients users get access to various office resources. It will require support and signoff from the employer and their tech team.
