Damager: My modem doesnt indicate my profile. How will i know if I've ever reached the mythical 17a profile? My attenuation still reads nil, even after a week after the installation of the master splitter.

It's definitely not mythical - I've been on it since the start of Feb Cool. You'll know you're on it if you see sync speeds over say 55 MBps (you can get over 50 Mbps on 8b with a good connection and a lowered SNRM target but 17a is noticeably faster). My speed went from typically being around 45 MBps to 65 MBps. I've also noticed a consistently lower error rate.

I don't think your attenuation will change - it's probably a bug in the modem's firmware.

Right the images after being connected today! We're physically ~600m line length if you go via road distance, depends which way around the block it takes though. Attenuation seems higher than id like, considering this a straight wire into the back of the fritz, no internal wiring at all, just the black cable coming in linked to cat5e.

With my attenuation, i'll never see 17a based on discussion here. But i reckon i might be able to approach 40 megabit with some snr tweaks.

How do i know what my current DLM profile is?

Will have to figure out how that works, and dive into config files.

Normally you take the latency in ms (1, 8, or 16) and then INP (0, 1, or 2) and use the table in the first post to figure out the DLM level. However your Fritz is not reporting the latency in ms. What firmware is it on? You can check in System->Firmware Update. Your spectrum graphs have min and max lines I've never seen too.

I guess you're either on DLM-1 or DLM-2. Your error rate is good, especially if you're on DLM-1. The upstream attenuation looks wrong - though my 7340 doesn't actually report upsteam attenuation at all. I wouldn't worry about that anyway as your upload speed has already hit the limit. The spectrum looks good though the 2nd downstream block is quite attenuated compared to mine (mine's between 55 and 60db). Based on that I think 17a is out for you as the 3rd downsteam block would be much worse again.

RalphFromSnap: Hi All,

We made some _very_ minor enhancements to our VDSL2 backend, for the most it will probably be unnoticeable but we would be interested to see if you all find your VDSL2 a bit "snappier"

You will need to re-authenticate (no need to actually re-sync)  for the new profiles to take affect.

Thanks
TheRalph

maybe this is a coincidence, but thought id give this a try,

usenet was always maxing out at about 4 - 4.5 MB/second since ive had VDSL

today since rebooting router (no change to VDSL line speeds on resync) its maxing out my connection @ 6.3MB/second

will actually have to set speed limits now so it doesnt slow web browsing etc

noticed the same with my ftp transfers from NL, usally over 10 threads ild see 1~2MB/s, today, 3.5~4.7MB/s

whatever the changes are, its made quite an improvement over transfers on the higher latancys it would seem..

@eXDee:  I'd like to know which firmware you're running as well!  Or are you running a 7390?

certainly dont have the min and max on mine.. so its not a 7390 feature ild say.. i am running a slightly outta date firmware though (84.05.22)

13 days uptime and no DLM moves, so may aswell let it update, force a resync and see what DLM does..

just noticed reading over the change log..

DSL
NEW: interop improvements
NEW: DSL-spectrum graphic now displays max- and min-values
NEW: DSL-line test can diagnose the physical DSL-connection

ftp://ftp.avm.de/fritz.box/fritzbox.fon_wlan_7390/firmware/english/info.txt

well, theres an hour of downloading firmware updates.. seems theres something wrong today :/

Do you get the latency in ms or as a description (like the "fast" that exDee has)? Might want to hold off updating if you prefer to see the exact value, at least until we have more of an idea about what terms like "fast" mean for DLM.

didnt actually notice that change, figured ild roll back if i didnt like it anyway..

as it is, its gonna take over an hour to download the firmware alone.. somethings not right today..

assumed it was just the AVM ftp server, till my dedi in NL pulled it at 28MB/s .. to find that no faster to come down

ah well, might just leave it for another day.. latancys are reasonable easy to work out, so i wouldnt see that as too bigger issue..

Feeling frustrated. I was with an ISP for 2 years, I got a connect rate and throughput equal to 69993 (Was always this and never changed), I was assured that a change of ISP would have no bearing of my speed and that even if it did DLM would bring me back to the profile I was on before of 17a, and this has not happened. Now the new ISP is basically blaming my line despite that it had been perfectly stable at 70Mbps prior to the change over. I wouldn't have changed if I knew I would lose the speed. i am syncing now at around 44Mbps and it's SLOWLY climbed to 44Mbps from 42Mbps which it was originally.

It's only been 2 weeks, right? I think you're going to have to be more patient. It's taken people more than a month just to get to DLM-1 before, let alone a switch to 17a.

What is it that you're doing that makes the difference between 44 Mbps and 70 Mbps so painful?

Rolled back to old firmware. Sync goes up slightly reported atten goes down. Im putting this down to it negotiating with SNR differently. Moving back to the new firmware since i can always tweak SNR after DLM finishes its 10 day monitoring.

edit: upgraded to new firmware, sync is almost the same as above, but attenuation has gone up to 15 again. Mainly did this as a test which confirmed my thoughts for our line - not a big difference.
