How's this for being trolled by your fibre installer? It's subtle, but it's messing with my OCD:
Fortunately I have a ladder and a hammer, and tomorrow I shall use them.

Well, I ended up contacting Chorus to see what they could do about the install & and a tech was sent out this morning.
Apparently running cables over the wallpaper is now standard and they no longer run the cables inside the walls as it's too expensive. Because of this, they weren't willing to replace the cable so the ONT could be placed near the floor as the install was up to specifications. The technician said his reason for using the small metal cable restraints was so that the cable could be pushed into the corner more, opposed to using the standard Chorus ones which would cause the cable to stick out from the corner more. The technician that said that I could move the ONT to another location as long as the fibre cable still reaches. Then he would come back later to re-terminate the fibre once I finished re-mounting it. This meant I could place the ONT in the closet which is perpendicular to the original wall it was mounted on. The technician terminated the fibre again then I rerouted the phone wiring into the closet (VoIP) and I'm currently waiting on an electrician to add an outlet to the closet. The fibre cable still has holes from where the cable restraints pierced through it, but the technician assured me it would have no affect whatsoever.
Overall, this has worked out very well and I'm very impressed with the end result. Huge thanks to the technician for going beyond what he's told to do to make us happy!

Hi all
I recently had UFB installed and am happy with the resultant speed and reliability. The installation quality however is not up to scratch I believe.
I met with the installers and gave instructions that I wanted the installation of the box that provides fibre to the ONT to be against a flat wall under my deck. However before I could stop the guys, they had drilled up through my deck directly above where I asked them to install and they installed the box on the side of my external cedar wall. This is frustrating as the box is now not flush with the external cedar weatherboard wall and therefore may not be weather tight.
A Chorus post-installation inspector came around to audit the installation and was not happy with the weather tightness and arranged for the installers to return and repair. The installers came a couple of weeks later with a tube of Silicone to repair and did an awful job. Unfortunately they left before I had a chance to look at their work and now have an unsightly and unsatisfactory result. (as per pictures)
Any suggestions as to what I should do or who I should contact to get this tidied up? I live in Khandallah, Wellington
I appreciate the advice and guidance that I received from members regarding the above installation.
As an update to where this ended up I contacted Chorus and after two further visits now have a reasonable outcome. Yes I would have preferred that the box had of been installed under the deck as I originally requested and could have insisted, however the remaining hole in the house and the deck would have caused me grief. What occurred was that the engineer applied silicone directly into the hole in the weatherboard where the wire entered the house and removed all the ugly visible silicone around the side and across the top. I bought some cedar scriber and blocked the gapping holes on both sides of the box.
My advice for those members considering future UFB installations is to insist the box be installed preferably out of sight and against a flat wall.

Here's one I noticed today, dropping my daughter off at a friends (in Ngaio, up a steep driveway):
Conduit up the drive to the edges, then tacked along the bottom of the fence etc. The conduit up the drive has been made to follow the fence - a series of right angles coming. Bends for everyone!
Not bad but did make me smile. And shudder.

I have noticed a lot of installs around Christchurch looking like this as well... including running conduit on top of the driveway to the house.
