Was there a resync with that change?

seatil: From what I can tell, having read a good 80% of this thread, is that despite the extremely low error rate, our attenuation is likely too high to be moved onto 17a.  Our only easy option to increase downstream sync rate will likely be SNR tweaking.  (The hard option involves getting the ETP moved to the gate, terminating the DSL line there, and point to point wireless to get back to the house.)

I think you'll get close to 50kbit with SNRM tweaking. Moving the ETP won't do any more than that unless you get on 17a and there is no guarantee of that.

@eXDee: Probably went from DLM-2 to DLM-4, some versions of firmware don't show this properly.

seatil: We haven't had any rain of consequence in the week we've been connected, so I think I'll hold off on the SNR tweaking until I've seen what a decent rainstorm does.  ;-)  Better to tweak SNR under the worst-case conditions and get something that will always be stable than to mess around under optimum conditions and risk being rapidly shifted backwards on DLM the moment it rains.

Sounds sensible :)  However with -5db you're likely to still have quite a bit of headroom before you hit the magical 10 CRCPM rate.

My line has slowly been degrading from this:

to this:

The snr ratio drops randomly at any time of day no matter what the weather is doing.  Error rates have gone way down to 0.1 per min from 3 per min

You say your error rates have dropped?

@JamesL & @HowickDota, could you please confirm your stats for the records?

Attenuation, Distance, Sync, Profile, DLM, CRCPM, SNRM, SNRMT
HowickDota: 6db, 150m, 62.8mbit, 17a, 1, 0.3, 12?, 0?
JamesL: 13db, 400m, 34.2mbit, 8b, 1, ?, 12?, 0?

SNRMT = SNRM Tweak, 0 = you're not tweaking your SNRM at all :)

@Xternal: So your line stats are looking pretty sweet, and considering your errors have dropped, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Looks like you'll be in line for 17a as well!

BTW, what is the approx distance from you to the cabinet (by road)?

@HowickDota: So your SNRM is at 12?

@Xternal: Have you tweaked your SNRM at all or is that on the standard settings?

so forced a resync today, seems the errors have cleaned themselves up, did loose drop back down to 39.9MBit rather than 40 however.. so that could have helped..
