Hi All,

Having a real issue with my new WAG54GP2v2 in that its dropping its DSL connection every few hours, minutes, days...its completely random when it does it but once it does it the router requires a restart.

I have had the Telecom man round here 3 times now and hes scratching his head as to what the problem is as hes tested, and changed lines and still the problem persists.

I see Linksys have just released a new firmware for it so I will try that out. (WAG54GP2v2_NZ_V2.01.03-code.bin)

I was wondering if anyone else has had problems with this model and also what connection settings do they use for Orcon.

PS: My settings are:

PVC mapping mode: disabled
Encapsulation: RFC 2364 PPPoA
Multiplexing: VC
Qos Type: UBR
Autodetect: Disabled
Virtual Circuit: VPI 0, VCI 100
DSL Modulation: G.dmt

Yes -- try the firmware upgrade and see if that makes a difference.

I couldn't find anything relating to your problem in the Whirlpool or Linksys forums.

Unfortunately its still dropping. I'm pretty sure its the modem now as the telecom man lent me one for a few days and it stayed up...ish

i would still be keen to here what anyone else has for there settings if they use orcon on one of these.

BTW, your modem settings are correct (i.e. mine are the same) I have the WAG54G v2 model.

Have you just recently changed plans? Interleaving is disabled by default on all max speed plans with Orcon, so turning it back on might solve your connection issues...

What are all the values shown under Status -> DSL Connection?

In particular:

DSL Path Mode
Downstream Rate
Upstream Rate
Downstream Margin
Upstream Margin
Downstream Line Attenuation
Upstream Line Attenuation

EDIT: Just read the part about the D-Link staying up. What exactly do you mean by "ish"? ;) If it's still not completely stable, it may still be a line issue - some modems just handle it better than others.

Just a thought... have you eliminated the possibility that the problem could be with a dodgy telephone lead, extension or filter/splitter?

- otherwise he'll charge you an $80 callout fee

That happened to me...

stupid extension lead! All the wiser now though... check EVERYTHING.

Even worse is when people think they need a splitter installed and it turns out to be just a dodgy cable/filter and they don't actually need the splitter. Burn $150, Burn!

Well finally it seems to be fixed...welll it only drops out 2 -3 times a day. They ended up changing the ports over in the exchange for me so the modem was fine.
