Hiya Folks,

For the last 8 years I hae lived in abject internet luxury. Namely I've been on the TelstraClear cable network. I've now gone and purchased a rather nice lakeside house near Rotorua which means no more simple fast connection to the internet.

So, I am seeking some guidance from the gathered digirati on Geekzone.

The Chorus lookup (http://bcc.telecomwholesale.co.nz/) unfortunately says: "This address is in an exchange area where the exchange supplies broadband services, however it is outside the planned faster broadband network area.".
It is a rural exchange. I have had the vendor run a speedtest on their current connection (Xtra) for me: https://www.speedtest.net/result/1836311328.png (6.6MB down, .7MB up *sob...sob*)

The current plan is to stick some sort of ADSL connection in and then look for alternatives. I have a pair of Ubiquiti PowerBridge M's (http://www.ubnt.com/powerbridgem) and I'm hoping to find someone/somewhere in line-of-sight who can get vDSL or Fibre and I'll poke a wireless bridge across to them. It'll terminate in the house into a Microtik RB493G (http://routerboard.com/RB493G) so no isues with multiple connections. Distribution around the property is hardwired GB ethernet and WiFi over Ubiquiti UniFi. Once I do find a way to do a wireless link I'll want to keep the DSL running and just route out over two connections as I can a) get some redundancy that way and b) Push my chunky download traffic over the crappy pipe and send my VOIP and video telephony over what I hope will be a fast radio link.

My questions for you all:

I need a DSL ISP. Anyone have any guidance.
  1. Don't need a voice line. Have not had one for 8 years.
  2. Budget $100-$200/mnth for 100GB or so
  3. Ideally not a long term contract (will pay a bit more per month to be flexible) as I'll want to 'turn down' my DSL once I achieve an alternative backhaul approach.
  4. Need a static IP
Anyone else having similar challenges in the Rotorua lakes region? Keen to tag team on a solution? (I may have somewhere to put my uplink radio that can pull Unison fibre and would be cool to have some folks to split the bill with)
