I spoke to an Xtra employee today about the Speeds of the so said 'Unleashed' Internet and the nation wide disappointment over 'Go Large'. Below is some clippings from our conversation.

Mako26: Why is our Internet plans going so slow now?
Xtra NZ: At Xtra, We cannot be held responsible for this. We warned all users before signing up for 'Go Large' About our Fair Use Guidelines and it was up to you to take note and read them through.

Mako26: I hear that it's not just Go Large users that are experiencing this.
Xtra NZ: Yes, Most Xtra users are experiencing this issue.

Mako26: Why is this?
Xtra NZ: We have to provide Broadband to many people at one time and as we have so many users, you all have to play fair and share your Internet. That was in our fair use policy.

Mako26: But why must we put up with Dial up speeds all month long?
Xtra NZ: You aren't, The Internet will run as fast as your phone-line is able.

Mako26: Yet mine can do over 10MB/s and I'm working on dial up speed.
Xtra NZ: Read our Fair Use Policy.

Mako26: Maybe you should consider 'UN-Unleashing' your broadband.
Xtra NZ: That is not an Option for us.

Mako 26: Why not?
Xtra NZ: We have promised our users max download speeds and we cannot take that away.

Mako26: But we aren't getting that speed!
Xtra NZ: Must i advise you to our Fair Use Policy Again?

Mako26: No doubt you will lose customers over this outrage.
Xtra NZ: We are providing what we promise.

Mako 26: "You will BLAZE through the Internet" I'm On a turtles back.
Xtra NZ: Xtra, And Telecom cannot take any blame for what you may be experiencing.

Mako26: "The Internet never stops, Why should you?" Well i ain't going no where
Xtra NZ: I do not have time to be Answering these questions.

Mako26: I bet most of New Zealand would like to know the same things.
Xtra NZ: I will not continue to be harassed by you.

-------*Call End*--------

Obviously Xtra knows of the Dissatisfaction it is causing its customers but they don't want to do a thing about it. In my opinion we should change to Ihug or something better.

Xtra continues to dissatisfy its customers and Vodafone Becomes so Anti-Telecom it just isn't funny. What is happening to our Network?!

Point well met. the same issue would happen if we would all shift to ihug. I guess Xtra just needs to go back to limited speed.

And vodafone is becoming increasingly nasty towards telecom. Not only is Telecom not included in ANY of Vodafones offers, But many rumors are floating around stating that Vodafone may be Reading all our Telecom-Vodafone SMS messages, That would explain the delay compared to Vodafone transmissions. In a recent speed test, Vodafone messages arrived in a average of 11.2 Seconds and Telecom was 2 Minutes and 34.8 seconds. Yes this has nothing to do with telecoms bandwidth lack but i though i would add it in. Don't know why. Tongue out

Mako26 you clearly have no idea what you are speaking about.

Rumors that Vodafone are reading Telecom TXT. What are you on??

Why would any carrier want to read SMS

Vodafone is keeping traffic on its own network you may not realise this vodafone is a business just like telecom NZ

Its just like the Telecom freedom that is keeping traffic on its network.

And when a TXT is sent cross network it may take longer

Don't take this the wrong way but rumors are just rumors.

Welcome to GZ hope you enjoy it and learn as well

John

Mako26: Yet mine can do over 10MB/s and I'm working on dial up speed.
Xtra NZ: Read our Fair Use Policy.
ADSL 1 is max 7.6mbps. So How can you get 10mbps or 10 megabytes per second?

Mako26: No doubt you will lose customers over this outrage.
Xtra NZ: We are providing what we promise.
They did not promise maximum speeds. They promised to remove the artifical line speed limitations.

Mako 26: "You will BLAZE through the Internet" I'm On a turtles back.
Xtra NZ: Xtra, And Telecom cannot take any blame for what you may be experiencing.
Read the terms and conditions.

Mako26: "The Internet never stops, Why should you?" Well i ain't going no where
Xtra NZ: I do not have time to be Answering these questions.

Mako26: I bet most of New Zealand would like to know the same things.
Xtra NZ: I will not continue to be harassed by you.
I'm sure this is a  'fair and balanced' transcript (with permission of the other party of course)....

Obviously Xtra knows of the Dissatisfaction it is causing its customers but they don't want to do a thing about it. In my opinion we should change to Ihug or something better.

Want is a powerful (and most likely wrong) word.
What is happening to our Network?!
Our network? You mean that network Telecom owns?

Vodafone messages arrived in a average of 11.2 Seconds and Telecom was 2 Minutes and 34.8 seconds.
We are talking about SMS right? Because in most of my tests here is <15 seconds for both VFNZ and Telecom SMS'ing, from an 021 handset.

Please advise what any carrier would get out of reading SMS

The person reading the SMS must be a speed reader!!

Do you have any idea how many SMS are sent a day

Not only that, but SMS from a network to another doesn't go from a mobile directly to another. They have to go through gateways, and depending on the load there's nothing wrong with a delay.

Its true. Its part of their request to take over New Zealand... first they bug everyones phones and then they plant mind control devices in their 3G phones. Resistance is useless.

Mako26 :

I'm happy with my Xtra Internet... I got my speed boost. I think Telecom are absolutely right when they say look at the fair use policy to you. I reckon they are probably sitting looking at a screen showing your internet usage while they are saying that.

I particularly resent you saying that New Zealand is upset with Telecom. I'm pretty sure they aren't. I'm not. Don't believe all the complaints you read in forums represents New Zealand. Don't believe the media - they stir up any story on slow news days. Don't piss off the customer service reps at Telecom by abusing them. Its not their fault.

Use your head and think about it.

You're probably on the $49.95 Go Large plan. I'm on the Xtra $49.95 5GB capped plan. What do you notice about those plans? They are both exactly the same price, except mine is capped. So why would I be on the capped plan if the uncapped Go Large plan is there for the same price? The answer is obviously speed. I get full speed but I pay with a data cap.

YOU ARE GOING TO GET LESS SPEED ON GO LARGE BECAUSE TELECOM IS GOING TO MANAGE YOUR TRAFFIC.

Otherwise why would they offer a 5GB capped plan and the uncapped plans at the same price? Use your head.

Go Large exists gives you unlimited data. My plan gives you unlimited speed. If you want both, pay more. IT COSTS MONEY TO TELECOM TO PROVIDE BANDWIDTH. DATA IS NOT FREE.

I am sick of reading kiddies posting on here thinking they represent everyone.

[Moderator edit (MF): replaced Gb with GB since obviously the poster is talking about gigabytes (GB) not gigabits (Gb)]

Interesting abot the SMS, I parked my car today and went to use my Voda for Text a Park i sent the text to 7275 and nothing happened, so i tried again and nothing happened, i then used my Telecom Phone and it was processed within 10 secs. Where did you get your averages from marko as they are clearly wrong
