Hi There!

I thought it might be useful to get a list of the ISP's offering UFB as of June 2012 and perhaps collate a list of pricing?

Yeah would be useful, NZ Tech Podcast do have a bit of a list together at http://nztechpodcast.com/nz-ultra-fast-broadband-ufb/

DTS could be added to the list too with their pricing

We've been working to keep a current page online with all UFB plans over at the NZ Tech Podcast site. Have setup an easy URL to point to that: www.ufb.org.nz

Will be adding a lot more content over the next little while in addition to the current pricing, etc.

Will be adding a lot more content over the next little while in addition to the current pricing, etc.

FYI, near the bottom of the page it lists Ultrafast Fibre for Waikato/BOP. It's actually only Waikato/Tauranga; the rest of the Bay (Whakatane and Rotorua) is under Chorus.

Please keep in mind that nowhere on that site or page you linked to does it mention the speed of the connection, The last time they did it was 10/10mbit but that was a LOOONG time ago

Every site I've come across that has an Xfnet connection (now Ultracom) the speed has only been 10mbps up & down.
If you actually click on the home plan on that page you'll actually see that for your $79 you do only get 10/10.
No 50/50 speed mentioned at all.
The closest is 30/10 which is $99. If you want 100/50 then it jumps to $229.

People are actually provisioning 10/10? What's the point, that's not Ultrafast at all! In some cases, that's slower than DSL.

Way to defeat the purpose, ISPs.

It's a single ISP doing this, Everyone else so far is 30/10, 50/50 or 100/50.

could be for several reasons:

Might be to manage capacity,
might be to price discriminate (which can be a good thing in some circumstances)
might be to give more realistic expectations of achievable speeds.

A consistent speed of 10Mbps is still plenty fast enough for virtually anything a normal user might want to do.

Unless one is downloading a heap of large files with a strict deadline, then most people will notice no difference between 10Mbps and 100Mbps, but restricting the speed to 10Mbps does stop the few crazy people who want to download the entire internet from clogging up the backhaul.

I'd happily take 10/10 if it was offered (if 30/10 isn't); a ~20% loss in download speed is offset by a 900% gain in upload.
