I don't know about everyone else, but I'm done talking about the great Unleashed meltdown of 2006...

Lets here some success stories - I know they are out there (I know a lot of people simply leave when their connection improves.)
I have one client which was at dialup speeds for a week (which killed their business) They got the config and faulty backhaul equipment gear fixed and was at 2 Megabits - Testing done this week shows they are around 3.5 Megabits now, and seem to be tracking upwards. (They connect at 7 Megabits)

So, our connection slowly seems to be improving in performance.

Who else has success stories of their connections speeding up? Lets hear em! (Include area number and first four digits of your line so we know what exchanges are better.)

Ours was 09 836

Also - I have a number of a Telecom guy assigned to log/fix/trace problems with lines still running slowly. I don't think I should give his number out en mass - but if you e-mail me, I think it's fine to privately hand it out, as he seems OK with me handing it out to anyone not on a managed account (ie corporate customers.)

Well during the changover to 'unleashed' plan my connection was going down constantly and speeds were horrible, but for the past week everything has been back to normal, hooray! I connect at 5mbps but i never get over 2.5mbps constant.
My ISP hasn't been counting my downloads for the past few days also so i'm enjoying the leechfest :))
The other day i downloaded a torrent at more than 40KB/s during peak times so thats great because my speed has been majorly throttled during peak times in the past month.
Only one improvement i can think of and that is more GBs for the same price, speed and performance is the same or worse.
So things are going great!

I am reasonably happy with my Xtra ADSL connection.
8mbit/s ADSL line-rate and 2-3mbit/s usable downstream 24/7
700kit/s usable upstream and a free static IP are good points.

I'm on Pro Advanced - I wouldn't go near Go Large with traffic management because over half of my usage is P2P so I can keep up to date with the WRC, download OS cd images and etc

She switched it, then phoned me all proud. I said whats the allowance on that plan, she said 2GB, i said whats our usage, she said she didnt know, i said 'you work for Telecom too, why dont you check', she did (just on the Xtra customer portal), and saw our average use is about 15GB...

doh

That really is funny... So you have to survive on 2GB for a month? Ouch

At home recently I was only getting a connection to the Telecom exchange of 64kbs and I wasn’t any where near being capped! :(. So of course I gave Xtra a call to find out what was wrong. The CSR who was rather helpful (he actually rang me back, and offered good service) tried to reset the 'port' but to no success. I rang back this morning and another rep changed something (I think he said something about power =S) and my rate jumped to 386, which isn’t great (but still way better than 64kps), but about normal (I think the house wiring isn’t very good and I am about 4k from the exchange) but they have advised me to get a splitter installed. I'll keep you posted if I receive any speed increase form this.

Has anyone else had any experiences with splitters??

For now I am just happy with use able internet again =)

You dont have to wait untill the end of your billing cycle to make any plan changes with Telecom/Xtra,  including Mobile, Broadband and Landline plans.

They are definitely a good idea as it avoids extra "stubs" on your line at every phone jack.  With a splitter, the high-frequency components go to one place only -- the ADSL router.  All the POTS devices are on their own circuit which prevents extra loading of the ADSL signal, hence you should get better downstream speed especially.

If you have a hard-wired alarm, make sure that it is the FIRST device on the POTS circuit.

No worries, I think you will find it is money well spent.

386kbps is still pretty dismal, so I would expect that you should see a worthwhile improvement after the splitter is installed.

Let us know the outcome, it will be interesting to see the actual percentage change.
