With IPv6 day come and gone, as far as i saw there were no developments from NZ isps.

So what's the status so far then? Do we have any developments for the near future?

XNet offer it. Is it on by default?

Snap offer it Is it on by default?

Telstraclear has a page here, and said they aim to complete the program by the end of 2012

Telecom has a prefix announced via BGP and have for more than a year. But that's all i seem to be able to find, and it doesn't mean much.

Not sure about Vodafone.

Not sure about Maxnet.

According to this post, Slingshot does not even have an allocation. No idea how accurate this is.

Not sure about Orcon.

This is a question better posted on the INZ mailing list. I think you'll find answers in the archive to all of those questions.

How are you going? Are you using tunnels now? Do you have a router ready to go?

Why are you asking?

Personally I put a big effort in then realised that it's a much bigger project than I thought with a lack of clear direction from vendors at the edge.

I've played with tunnels and proven I can dual stack everything.

I think we're going to be dual stacked for a very long time to come.

I've been running native IPv6 for 70% of our internal network (around 20 servers and 50 workstations) for about 3 weeks now. Was absolutely seamless apart from a few hiccups with our ISP, so much better than IPv4. We currently have each location with 2x /64 subnets on pfsense 2.1 development routers. We use stateless autoconfig for addressing (its amazing). Everything just worked and switched to IPv6 as soon as I turned it on, running mostly Win 7, win 2008 r2.

- We are with Orcon who provide native IPv6
- We have a /112 linking range to each location and they route us a /48 at each location
- Most clients win 7, win vista
- Most server 2008 r2 or Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
- Everything ran from the word go using stateless autoconfig
- All our Konica MFDs run with IPv6 no problems
- Yealink IP phones advertise IPv6 support but don't seem to

It's awesome.

Tunnel services have been around for ages and IMO are only good if you are techie, want to test and don't have native IPv6. They shouldn't be used for normal usage - lack of efficiency through tunneling data unnecessarily and a big chance of something going wrong.

I have a few million v6 addresses ready to issue to my customers - my upstream supports it but i am waiting for my bandwidth accounting software to be updated to support it and then i can start issuing addresses direct to my customers.

I think thats the hold up for most ISP's - each has picked their own supplier of network infrastructure and its a matter of waiting on the firmware updates to come through.

Then there is the task of updating firmware on end users routers and modems - thats going to be fun for the big boys.

Ah this is nothing specific to my setup. This is aimed to be general discussion on the state and progress of IPv6 on NZs most significant ISPs. I'm asking because we just had IPv6 day and I wanted to hear if there had been any progress.

I have played with he.net tunnels and used sixxs too. Too much of a latency increase for he.net, while the wellington POP for sixxs is fine, i'm only really interested in discussion of native support.

Part way through multi-million dollar network upgrades, but so far IPv6 testing has been internal only. To be honest it's not hard to setup at all, but as mentioned above, it's the surrounding systems which need to be aligned.
