Hi all

Just thought I'd mention my experiences with broadband, which luckily enough haven't been that bad.

I have had broadband at home since October last year with ihug, I started with the 256k plan but was soon upgraded to the 2Mb/s plan of which has served me well.

The router I was using was the wireless Dlink G604T and was getting a around 1.5Mb/s consistently, recently when ihug came out with their full speed plans I upgraded and got no more speed but I think it was due to the fact of using wireless after reading some previous posts on this website about WPA encryption overhead and MTU.

I have subsequently tried the Dlink 302G router (non wireless) and the speed was consistently 3.2Mb/s, and just last night I tried the Dlink DSL200 and consistently got around 4.2Mb/s but I'm back down to 3.2Mb/s as I prefer to use the ethernet connection on the DSL 302G rather than the USB only DSL200.

Quite amazed at the differing speeds on different modems of the same brand all with the latest firmware.

Finally I think with these new plans ihug isusing much more traffic management as since October last year I have been using a VPN into work which has been working well but since last weekend it has started to have a few hiccups for example when I ping the server the response is around 115ms but every so often it times out once then responds again only to time out again 20 or so pings later, I'm querying ihug about this but don't expect much response.

Cheers
